Strength & Mobility (Machine & Floor exercise) 40:00 [2]

Full upper body workout. Paddling season is fast approaching! 'Bent tried his new bike trainer while I used the weight machine, and boy was he working hard! Looks like it's going to work out well for him. I'll try my bike too, but MTB tires are supposed to be really noisy on a trainer. How will I be able to hear the Comedy Channel?

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:25:00 [2]

1st day of Spring and light snow has been falling all day. This was the 3rd time that I've gone for my "last" ski of the season. Toured on waxless skis around Palgrave West, Hardwood Trail and Charlevoix with 'Bent and pooches. Very good conditions with one surprise when the snow suddenly ran out at the top of a long south-facing slope. Ran up a few hills and felt great, but also stopped for photography. I can't remember another year when we've had 4 months of local skiing.

Trekking 45:00 [1]
(rest day)

Woke up feeling so fatigued that even coffee couldn't help. Maybe should have allowed more recovery time from ARC race? Too much skate-skiing for a beginner? Two nights with <5 hrs sleep? Went for a fun off-trail, hilly hike through the forest with 'Bent, Etoile, Adventure Girl, ThunderDog and BulletDog. Found some *very* deep snow in open areas. Avoided Conservation Area because Hammer was working on GRR course, but had an accidental sighting anyway. Didn't get any hints from it though - darn. ;-)

XC Skiing (Skate) 2:10:00 [4]
max:174

Hardwood Hills - an intensive skate-skiing instructional session with The Minister, an excellent coach with a "Suck it up, Princess" attitude. He chose the hilly Olympic Trail system for teaching, and wouldn't let me use poles for several km. So many little things to remember, but It's starting to come together. HR is high, probably because I'm stroking too frequently. Note to self: remember to push off left foot as well as right.

Running 1:10:00 [4]
ahr:158 max:177

Several loops around snowy, icy Chedoke golf course plus an escarpment stair climb with the GHO High Performance gang. (I was visiting from GHO's more popular Medium Performance program.) It was good to be pushed harder than I would normally push myself. Ice Bug shoes worked amazingly well. Must look for the Goretex version early next year before they sell out.

Running 35:00 [3]
ahr:135

Trail run around west Palgrave with Tobler - short Bruce plus some extras. Deep snow in places added to the challenge, but good running on the BT.

Paddling 45:00 [4]

Hydrospinning class - four 10-minute intervals with rests.

Paddling 30:00 [2]

Hydrospinning Class - technique drills, warm-up, cool-down.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Sunny trail run around west Palgrave with Mocha. Snow deep and heavy in places, but it still felt like the first day of spring training!
