Oh, the difference a good sleep makes! AdventureDog and I went for a sunny, pre-dinner run around the Palgrave West trails. There is a lot of dry trail with occasional muddy sections and some long stretches of ice. My heel has felt surprisingly good since my St. Patrick's ski at Highlands, when it felt like I was ripping the Achilles insertion right off the bone. Maybe that's exactly what it needed?!

'Bent and I thought yesterday might be our last ski of the year (again) but we ended up back at Scenic Caves this morning where 'Bent skied with Goose and Coach LD, and we had brief chats with Dee, Gally and Mrs. Gally. It was another glorious, cool day with remarkable snow conditions for late March. A nice bonus!

Nobody wanted to stop so we postponed our return to Caledon a little longer to go for one more ski around Scenic Caves. Coach LD came with me even though she hadn't brought classic skis, which was impressive. Another beautiful ski!

The window shade installer was coming to Tree Hugger Advanced Base Camp so ‘Bent and I went up for one more ski at Scenic Caves on a bluebird day. The forest trails were fast and in great condition with only a few thin spots. We saw two other people skiing but otherwise it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Time includes oooh-ahhh stops at both the lookouts.

TRX Boot Camp with Kristy. I took a few seconds from our 15-second rest breaks to stand up more slowly when we were alternating between prone and standing sets. It worked - I didn't feel like passing out tonight. Yay, small victories.

Sunny, chilly, chatty run with Mrs. Tiny around the trails and (mostly) gravel roads around Belfountain.

We did a loop from Higher Ground Coffee Co. through Belfountain Conservation Area (which still had some big ice patches), up to the edge of Forks of the Credit, down Puckering Lane and McLaren, then Bruce side trail up to Grange Rd. where we joined the main Bruce Trail. We ran to Devil's Pulpit to see the view then took roads back to the coffee shop for lunch. Fun run and a great workout!

My body is in minor shock after three 2-hr sessions in three days. Nice to get back to a regular training schedule.

This weekend Kilian Jornet broke his leg (fibula) and dislocated his ankle in a fall while leading a Skimo team race. When your job description is "best trail runner in the world", that's not how you want your spring to begin.

We're registered for the Mohican 100K Mountain Bike Race on June 2. It's a fun, hilly course with lots of single track. Anyone else in?

Beautiful day! I ran the Oak Ridges Trail to the old stile in Glen Haffy, around the lollipop of the Bruce Trail and Innis Lake road allowance, then back home on the ORT. The trail was a mix of snow, ice, mud and frozen ground. I was glad to have spikes but the Snowcross were too warm, as expected. I need to switch to spring/fall spiked shoes but I haven't used them for awhile and wasn't sure about a 2-hr run in them.

'Bent and I went to Highlands Nordic in our St. Patrick's Day colours. What a gorgeous bluebird day! Most of the trail network is open and conditions were great when we started - only a few places where the track was thin.

As the sun continued to shine, the snow got softer and slower, and so did I. Dirt started getting churned up in a number of places; they'll need more snow soon. So glad we went today! This may be it for the season but it's one more ski than we thought we would get.

Nice to run into Mrs. Tiny and Heidi on our way out.

After an active morning at Plunge, Mrs. Tiny, Teeny and I hiked up the mountain on the beautiful, snowy Lover's Leap trail at Craigleith. We were passed by a man using poles, wearing full crampons and a heavy pack. Turns out he's training for a charity climb above Everest Base Camp. Cool! We picked the right trail for hill training, I guess.

Some of us were in a very celebratory mood when we reached the top.

The view back to Georgian Bay was stunning. I forgot sunscreen today - poor life choices.

We ran/hiked down the Switchback trail. This burned so many calories that we had to go back to the Village for treats.

Elapsed time 2 hrs but we enjoyed the views.

Mrs. Tiny and Teeny Tiny came up to Collingwood for a March Break girls' getaway.

We started out with a training run for Teeny's upcoming 5K race.

BazingaDog joined us and behaved very well on his skijoring harness. I think we may be able to run together more safely now that he's 7 years old.

Teeny wanted to visit the fitness centre across the road. Between chatting with neighbours and friends, I got in a few sets. What was more impressive was watching Teeny do pull-ups like it was no big deal. She has serious muscles!

Sunny, snowy, icy trail run at Blue Mountain with Dee, Mrs. Gally, Amber and AdventureDog. We went up the Switchback trail and headed toward Loree Forest before looping back. Some of this was on rough snowshoe trail that was a bit like bushwhacking. Lots of fun, beautiful scenery and great to catch up!

Kristy's boot camp. I started out feeling great but redlined during some sets of plank jacks and felt lightheaded. After that, I toned things down a bit and skipped the 2nd class I'd signed up for. Blah. Not sure if it's related but I had a big lunch mid-afternoon, thinking it might be better than doing the class on an empty stomach and having dinner at 9:30 p.m. I didn't feel sick but I wonder if my body was so busy digesting that it forgot to send oxygen to my brain. Hmm.

O Cup #6 - DGL's Knockout Adventure Run, formerly known as The Eliminator

My GPS initially took me to the wrong location for the race start/finish. Foreshadowing.

The Knockout format consists of three point-to-point sprint orienteering races that each have an O Cup box where racers may skip controls based on their age and gender.

After Race #1, new maps are distributed. The top 20 racers remain eligible for the win. Everyone else continues racing for the places further back. After Race #2, only the top 10 racers are eligible to win Race #3, which determines the overall winner.

It was a spectacular, cool, sunny day. There was a little snow and ice but mostly we ran on bare ground and occasional mud. Runnability and visibility were mostly quite good. The Knockout Adventure Run was taking place at the same time as the Knockout O Cup so there were lots of people running around in the woods, which was great.

I didn't have any big nav errors and I felt pretty good running but somehow I failed to process the important information that our final map would have the finish control marked beside a school about 250 m away from the school where the finish control would actually be. When I got my map for Race #1, the incorrect control had been crossed out and the correct control drawn on, so I just didn't think about it hard enough. So... I reached the finish control on the map in 1st place - but by the time I went partway around that school and figured out where the finish really was, Andrei outsprinted me.

Still a super fun race and I got chocolate for my category in the O Cup Series, which was won overall by the amazing Isak Fransson for the 2nd year in a row! AdventureGirl was top Junior Girl and Pekka Toivanen (missing from photo) was the top adult male and 2nd overall. Funderstormin' and I celebrated with a yummy lunch at the Merit Brewery.

This was a mix of running and hiking but I'll call it a run because we climbed a lot. 'Bent, BazingaDog, AdventureDog and I went up the Switchback Trail at Craigleith and ran/hiked some snowshoe trails around Craigleith and Alpine. It was a spectacular sunny day but - sadly - not wintry. We traveled over ice, mud, puddles and bare, frozen ground. Some of these trails must be winter-only since they are covered with undergrowth. I hope not too much of it was poison ivy! It was fun to explore and get more familiar with the area. The pooches had a great time romping and sniffing.

This was just a quick trip to Collingwood but before 'Bent and I headed home, we finally tried out the fitness centre in our part-time neighbourhood, Silver Glen. It's well equipped so we'll have to stop in more often.
