Orienteering race 1:21:41 [4] 6.5 km (12:34 / km)
shoes: VJ Integrators

O in the Oaks III Day 2
Map at Routegadget

This day was much better for me! I had a really fun time. The course setting was marginally less steep and shorter, but that made all the difference.

Because I knew what was in store I wasn't afraid to push the pace. I ran up everything, and only rarely slowed. Map reading was much much better, I stayed in good contact, and mistakes were much smaller.

I did lose focus briefly when I saw what I think was a bobcat. A couple controls later I saw a coyote. Very cool. Things like that are what make running so awesome.

The Gookin article in ONA has made me consider hydration. After Saturday's race I was definatly dehydrated, and I spent all afternoon feeling thirsty. As a result I drank water, ice tea, orange juice, and a 32 ounce gatorade. Could this explain my edge on Sunday???

O-in-the-oaks Day 1.
Map at Routegadget

I got beat. Made some big errors early and forgot to punch #2. This is my 3rd error of this nature in the last 2 months (See BC champs and Arnold Ice Caves), I really need to work on my focus and perhaps develope the "Ted de St. Croix" map fold.

The hill climbing was just to much for me. Too steep to run. I might have pushed through (I've run stuff that steep in Beazel), but I was concerned about running out of steam and not finishing. My map contact was also very poor today. I was focusing on attackpoints, but I spent most of my time getting lost and relocating. I think dehydration may have been a deciding factor here. All things considered, I was suprised to finish as well as I did.

Some highpoints of the race where seeing wilde pigs and a couple deer. I was also happy to that I finished with really fast splits, could it have been the water I drank at every stop?

Note
(rest day)

Legs felt pretty sore and tired, considering the last two easy runs. I think it's carry over from marys peak. Time to take a day off...

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Another light jog. This time, about 4 miles out past the covered bridge.
Afterwards I did situps, and some light weight training at Dixon. Most importantly finished up by taking sauna.

Biking 20:00 [3]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Hard ride up and down witham hill, so I could get my running shoes in time to join the running club

Running 40:00 [2]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Easy great harvest run. Went through pioneer park to the waterfront. Running and good bread have been a perfect combo this week.
