Orienteering race (London City Race) 42:36 [5]
spiked:25/25c slept:8.5 shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255
Had been looking forward to this for ages, thought I should try and stay a leg ahead of myself but other than that no plan before the race.
Started off quite fast and had a good flow going by 4. Decided to ease off a bit though to make sure I wasn't over threshold pace so I didn't blow up later.
4-5 not sure about my route will wait for other routes. Same with 6 through St Pauls. The next few were straightforward, but the obvious route to 9 was blocked off, and couldn't make my mind up about which way to go round some buildings, so again waiting for some routes (Ali and Harrison!!).
Picked my way through the alleys to 10 and 11 nicely.
Then at 12 lost the most time of all my race just due to some building meaning the pavement had a diversion down a street.
Past the gherkin to 13 which was quite cool.
Not sure about route to 14 but got fastest split so must have been fine.
16 I changed my route at the last minute to go right, not sure which route is best.
Then stopped at 16 for a bit to make sure I was planning to go on the right level to 17.
18 went right, think this was best.
19 and 20 straightforward.
22 was a bit picky, came out to the square thing and could see it.
The rest were good, although on the last one started going down a level for no reason but only lost about 5 seconds doing that.
Really fun race, interesting to see how close the splits are despite there being so much route choice on some of them.
Pleased to win, must have been running well as well.
