Orienteering race (London City Race) 42:36 [5]
spiked:25/25c slept:8.5 shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Had been looking forward to this for ages, thought I should try and stay a leg ahead of myself but other than that no plan before the race.
Started off quite fast and had a good flow going by 4. Decided to ease off a bit though to make sure I wasn't over threshold pace so I didn't blow up later.
4-5 not sure about my route will wait for other routes. Same with 6 through St Pauls. The next few were straightforward, but the obvious route to 9 was blocked off, and couldn't make my mind up about which way to go round some buildings, so again waiting for some routes (Ali and Harrison!!).
Picked my way through the alleys to 10 and 11 nicely.
Then at 12 lost the most time of all my race just due to some building meaning the pavement had a diversion down a street.
Past the gherkin to 13 which was quite cool.
Not sure about route to 14 but got fastest split so must have been fine.
16 I changed my route at the last minute to go right, not sure which route is best.
Then stopped at 16 for a bit to make sure I was planning to go on the right level to 17.
18 went right, think this was best.
19 and 20 straightforward.
22 was a bit picky, came out to the square thing and could see it.
The rest were good, although on the last one started going down a level for no reason but only lost about 5 seconds doing that.
Really fun race, interesting to see how close the splits are despite there being so much route choice on some of them.
Pleased to win, must have been running well as well.

Running race (Parkrun) 17:55 [5] 5.0 km (3:35 / km)

Probably started a bit fast because last two kms were much slower. Not many people there today so not in a pack or anything. Tim Robertson finished first by miles.

(Straight line distance).
Turns out I suck at orienteering when I'm not enjoying it. Didn't help that we were in a rush to get there as well so not focused at all.
Bad start to 1 as poor direction. Then picked up for a few controls but always pussied out onto the paths instead of manning up and going through the grot. 7 was in the thicket to the north, again poor direction. 11 was diabolical attacked about three times before finding it and am pretty sure I was on the feature a couple of times but didn't see the control. 14 I got to the feature, the flag wasn't there, stood around for a while, then saw it about 20 metres away not on the feature for whatever reason. 17 on wrong bit of trees. 20 got there, it wasn't there, must have been removed early as I got there before 3 and they said that was when they would be removed. So spent some time there. 26 was awful tried to man up but failed halfway through so ducked out and then wasn't sure what was going on.
Pretty poor performance really, very lazy orienteering.

4 x 1000m with 200m jog between.
Wasn't sure how to pace it so first one and first half of second were slow. Enjoyed it.

Easy on Buskett's, saw a lot of deer.
Knee not painful but felt weird at times.
