Fast Walking 1:30:00 [2] 9.1 km (9:53 / km) +230m 8:47 / km
ahr:124 max:149 shoes: Roclite 275s

Walk/Trot - Far St M CP-GC-Pewley Down-over St Martha's
Ground like uneven concrete and R achilies tender so ran 1/3 of planned long walk/trot.
SI joint became misalinged yesterday, which didn't help.

Orienteering 1:07:21 [4] 8.2 km (8:13 / km) +130m 7:37 / km
ahr:164 max:177 shoes: Roclite 275s

Minley - Blue 6.8k
Aimed to avoid usual mini-blow up at 20-25 mins on what proved to be a fast course. Simplified RC to maintain flow flow apart from 19 in the tall bracken. Excluding first 5 mins, average HR was 166! Even allowing for the 22deg heat that was well above recent THR. Remodelling/adaption perhaps.
5. Further S might have been quicker.
8. 15s hesitant approach to control area.
9. 1.00 Went N to simply and didn't see what was a very indistinct path.
11. 30s Not on the inside thicket corner that people expected and realised immediately so might have gained time on most.
18. 10s through CP quicker.
19. 20s took time to spot the distinctive tree.
20. 30s saw small overgrown path and incorrectly thought it was too early.

Orienteering 1:06:26 [4] 6.6 km (10:04 / km) +230m 8:34 / km
ahr:158 max:178 shoes: Roclite 275s

Addington Hills - Gloss Extension - 4.9k 26-30degs
Didn't feel good before starting and wasn't surprised to struggle with the heat (HR 170 plus for 5mins) and walked a little. Trip down memory lane.
2. 90s - visibilty punished being 20m too far N on steep slope.
3. 2.00 - careless, even trickier than it looked on the map.
10. 2.30 - switched off counting the valleys & then came up wrong reent.
12-14 struggled with heat.
14 to 22 got back into physically & mentally.
23. 40s - just like 3.
Brilliant area and only 45 mins drive- must return soon.

Note

Got hit in the eye on Saturday and saw optometrist to check out the burst blood vessel from a fortnight ago at the same time. Everything fine.

Mountain biking 3:04:00 [3] 45.5 km (4:03 / km) +650m 3:46 / km
ahr:138 max:164 shoes: Anthem

Blackheath-Winterfold-Abinger(cake)-Ranmore Church (bell ringing)-Staples(home zero beer)
Easy pace to save legs & stay cool with 2 stops- had water to spare
Tri-shorts not padded enough for a longer summer MTB ride.

Orienteering 35:00 [2] 4.0 km (8:45 / km)
slept:5.25 shoes: Roclite 275s

The Hawth - 3.1k 28 control forest sprint - Great use of a quality 10 hectare area.
Arrived without compass. Not ideal with a few hundred depressions and twisty indistinct paths.
Had no flow and accidentally ran past control 22- that's two events running.
Unusually lightheaded headachy etc
12 PM

TrailO 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

Trail O - 10/13 or 11/13 allowing for misplaced flag.
1 A Z- thought it would be a beginners course.
6 No idea why I marked wrong answer.
9 Think "correct" flag was incorrectly placed.
Unexpected bonus that this was an added extra- all good experience.

Note

Despite numerous satisfactory blood tests recently, I found out my iron level is on the cusp between normal and mildly anaemic. Should be interesting/rewarding if I can get it nearer the average.

Mountain biking 1:19:15 [3] 20.7 km (3:50 / km) +320m 3:33 / km
ahr:137 max:168 shoes: Anthem

ACW round Chantries, over Blackheath, Albury CC, Tyting
Felt much stronger today. All over the place in the deep sand.

ahr:136 max:152 slept:8.5 weight:71.8lbs shoes: Anthem

Out to Staples, back via brewery & golf course.
What a change to not have to clean the bike or zigzag for the best grip.

Note

Left eye has been very bloodshot since last Monday and shows no sign of getting better yet. Assumed it was injured in Sunday's grot, though don't recall anything during or afterwards.
1 PM

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] 8.7 km (9:12 / km) +220m 8:10 / km
ahr:143 max:167 shoes: Roclite 275s

Windmill Hill - 26degs
Loop C - 1.7k 80m - 17.20, water and gel between.
Loop A - 1.6k 90m - 23.00 Lost time and motivation in the bracken
Had planned 4 loops. Heat and bracken got the better of me and left it at 2.
Long run/walk, out and back almost twice, after forgetting hidden keys.
Could smell heathland fire from Bisley Live Firing Range

Orienteering 1:33:50 [3] 9.3 km (10:05 / km) +90m 9:37 / km
ahr:152 max:172 shoes: Roclite 275s

Congo Stream - Blue, Maze & Map Memory.
Possibly my worst run for a decade. Walked from 17 to 18 and from thereon was clean bar the maze and one leg on the map memory, which was my best section by some way. Had difficulties judging distances and uncharacterically left a few controls in the opposite direction.

Orienteering 1:16:45 [3] 8.9 km (8:37 / km) +60m 8:21 / km
ahr:148 max:169 slept:7.75 weight:71.8lbs shoes: Roclite 275s

MV Horton Country Park - Gloss Plus Extension
50% mindless(*) track running, with the rest being paths/routes through long grass, or thorny grot.
* Managed to run past 1 without punching which I didn't realise. Wasn't enjoying it and considered not doing the extension. Glad I did, as it was no better but at least it made it into a longer training run with "unplanned" walks and the odd crawl.

Warm Up 4:00 [2]
shoes: Roclite 275s

Just made the start after discovering there was a vehicle height restriction to access the car parks.

Orienteering 57:30 [4] 5.8 km (9:55 / km) +80m 9:16 / km
ahr:156 max:172 slept:5.5 shoes: Roclite 275s

DFOK Beacon Wood - 60/70/80 30 control Score
Had a simple strategy which appears to have been better than most.
4(81) - 1.45, went into 79 40m before 81 and did not realise so took earlier path and finally the penny dropped.
6(83) - 1.15, didn't read desc & lacked confidence to dive off path and came back to exact spot.
7(84) - 0.50, several large contour features not mapped.
20(73) - 0.20, should have taken more "runnable" line through grot rather than walking along ridge.

A decent result. Consensus was it harder than it looked, with vague paths, loads of grot and some iffy contours. Good use of the area. In winter with Lidar contours it could be a great little area.
