Lakes Day 5 Dale Park

Certainly the most frustrating day of the week!
Generally good - not always taking the best routes - but simplifying well. Sadly the good work was undone by one big error and my shoe falling apart near the end!

#4 Insufficiently direct trying to avoid unavoidable climb [20]
#6 Roundabout route probably too far [20]
#10 Hesitant, paused mid route and slowed down to make sure [20]
Next few went well, started getting more confident...
#15 Then it all went wrong. Downhill leg and lost contact, passed control on small crag, thought I needed to go further south when actually very slightly north... Suddenly couldn't make anything fit and panicked, including following someone blindly to #10 before eventually working it out... Possibly overconfidence after a good sequence and thinking a 6m crag would be obvious when it was rather tucked away! [5mins+]
#16 Set off too low, then ran past flag. With another runner now, not aiding concentration... [45]
#17 Still in panic mode, poor map contact and meandering route [50]
#18 Shoe sole came apart descending slope; slow to finish (4th place split on #20 must show everyone messed it up as I was not running quickly!)

So could have been very good but ultimately was a bit of a disappointing end to the week!

Finished 7th overall which was probably almost the best I could have expected anyway!

Lakes Day 4 Askham Fell

Beautiful day and really enjoyed this. Surprised by how well I was running in general!

Started ok, wobble to #3 locating indistinct path [15]
Passed Pete Tryner in the marsh en route to #6 - surprisingly good split here?
Enjoyed far section, though a bit low for #9 [10]
Then became confused mid leg to #10, aiming for wrong tree enclosure, but corrected after finding #5 [60]
Small miss on #11 [15]
Then generally ok thereafter.

Lakes Day 3 Whinlatter

Early start and Roger Goddard starting 1min behind me...
Struggled through heather to #3 where he caught me.
I took a higher line to #5 which didn't pay off and he got away.
Carried on plugging away (pretty straightforward navigation) before catching rickyp at #9 who had started a few minutes ahead. With him for a bit before he messed up #11 despite my helpful coughing...
Clean through the forest and surprisingly caught sight of RG again but exit from #15 [45] cost me any chance of latching on again.

Lakes Day 2 Angle Tarn Pikes

Started ok - used same line extensively for first 3.
#5 Very slightly low, tempted by similar feature further down slope but resisted with some hesitation [90]
#8 Dropped too low too soon [45]
#14 Lost contact and far too low; blase having been there already [3m 30s]

Bit quick for me today in any case.

Lakes Day 1 Silver Howe

After so many weeks of sun it certainly rained today!
#1 Took a low line but failed to climb after crossing stream - instead tempted to knolls further down slope [120]
#3 Headed towards path, decided straight was better, but over-corrected and ended up descending slope into rocks and bracken... [120]
#5 Got to vicinity of control ok but slightly low - couldn't see boulder in re-entrant on map and followed Jon X further down hill [120]
Improved to finish.
