Race the Castles - Balmoral.
Great area / course. Enjoyed, albeit a bit hilly for my liking.
#5 Went west as I thought it would save climb and offer better running but it didn't pay off [60]
#6 Caught Ian Webb here which provided a bit of impetus to get away by #9
#11 Briefly attempted to cross river (not a good idea), then off line up the hill [30]
#13 Pretty sure that this was the best route for me, but slightly overshot [20]
#14 Found the Brown control in the quarry, worked out where it must be, but then confused myself as it didn't seem to fit. Very hesitant. Led Spongey and Kris into flag [50]
#17 Chasing the aforementioned through the previous two controls (hence elevated splits); being dropped anyway, but in my haste I smacked my right knee against a boulder and came to a crippling halt. Hobbled on to flag and it wasn't too bad to run on; just got on with it [45]
#19 Stopped to stretch a bit to stave off cramp, but loss in concentration saw me drop too far down the hill and I got stuck in a load of brash in the open [80]
#21 Confused by people emerging from the OOB; once I had worked out it must be the main start area I had overshot the wall crossing and lost height that I had to regain [75]
#22 Not much fight left up the hill but found the flag ok.
#23 Thought I did it ok, but in retrospect a bit of a banana [30]
#26 Intended to use path, but swayed by Eddie and Burke around me went straight. Stupid miss; I realised first. Then Murray breezed past [90]
#27 Shortly after punching Murray came past again.
Got my knee checked out at the first aid van afterwards; significant laceration which will take a while to heal, but no major damage done it would seem.
Probably in about the right place in the results (58/73). Less than an hour behind Hubmann (!)
