Running 41:38 [4] 8.32 km (5:00 / km) +77m 4:47 / km
ahr:151 max:173 rhr:48 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 August 2014

Have acquired a HRM so played around with it a bit on this run around the Barony Estate. Still haven't disabled the autolap on refurbished GPS so it seemed a sensible plan to do 1km 'intervals' at varying paces.
4.30, 5.30, 4.30, 6.00, 4.00, 5.00, 5.30. Made 'interesting' by the fact that the topography / underfoot conditions were variable - meaning I had to work harder on some of the 'easy' intervals (and vice versa). Then a couple of sprints up a small hill and a jog back.

WU/WD 5:00 [3] 0.8 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Integrator August 2014

Not much time after being on standby to address any control issues with the VHI relay. No problems meant I was able to remain competitive though.

Caddihoe Chase Day 2 Mallards Pike
NGOC forging the way in new technology - live Wifi results and screen for chasing start both impressive and seemed to work well.
More familiar with the area for today but annoyingly feeling especially tired. Loaded up on jelly babies but they can only get you so far...

Chasing Adam Potter ~2mins with a couple chasing me at the same interval. Bit lucky on #1 (but ready to bail straight out to the path today!), #2 straightforward, then was surprised to see Potter dithering around before #3 and I punched just ahead. He then proceeded not to dither any more; I could (sort of) keep up downhill in terrain to #4 but he skipped away up the hill towards #5.
Ok through to #7, although with someone following in my wake for much of this section; thought I'd been caught, but it turned out to be Michael Hallett on Short Brown with a couple of common controls.
Spotted Potter leaving #8; tried a somewhat maverick route choice to #9 in the hope of gaining some ground but it didn't pay off; stuck in the grotty open [80] Didn't see him again.
Stuck in a bit of brash on the way to #10 [20]
Straight to #11 and east route to #12. Spotted Romualdas approaching from the west as I left the control.
#13 Rom running quicker (appeared to my right when I came out on the track) but I stumbled across the control first (can't really claim it was down to technical excellence).
#14 Pulled Rom too far east initially on a crap bearing then did a tour of the ruin to find the flag [25]
#15 Circumnavigated the green; Rom must have gone straight and hit it first; didn't see him again [20]
#16 Fairly straight, other than to ease the climb where possible.
#17 Don't know this part of the map very well; kind of in autopilot mode and started looking far too early due to a mirage of a veg boundary and catching feature of a gully. Found a control, not mine, misidentified as a boulder so incorrect relocation. Stumbled around a bit, found a platform to attack from, overshot, eventually found it [180]
#18 Not too enthused with the race now; noticing blisters on both insteps (new socks needed) and stomach starting to protest rather vehemently [30]
Fortunately the rest was predominantly downhill so I didn't lose too much time; even got a fastest split somehow!

Finished 4th overall in M21 but only 6th M21 / 8th on Brown on the day.
4 PM

Note

Headed back north in preparation for heading even further north (Glasgow) early the next morning.

WU/WD 6:00 [3] 1.0 km (6:00 / km)

Fairly token - but lots of stretching to try to loosen back (need to be careful about shins too - some pain...)

Caddihoe Chase Day 1 Soudley
Enjoyable. Haven't run here for a while and there was very little undergrowth (or the course was planned to avoid the worst!)
Struggled with the climb on the two early long legs but picked up towards the end.

#4 Dropped to the path after leaving #3, immediately losing the height that I had gained. Unsure whether this cost me.
#6 Looked at high route but convinced that it was (is) too far around. Bit hesitant attacking from the ride corner - control seemed to be a long way below me [30]
#10 Lost too much height too soon [20]
#12 Dragged too far south by others [20]
#14 Micro miss to the south again [15]
#16 Took a risky route (influenced by catching a couple of guys up?) Missed control on first approach (left path later than intended). Bit of searching got me nowhere, but instead of bailing, tried to shortcut relocation by spotting veg boundary on path from afar; misidentified corner of white as open... Belatedly went out to the eastern path and the control was trivial [270]
Remainder of the course was good!)

10th on Brown including VHI runners / fourth M21, 8mins down on Barrable
4 PM

Note

Collected some controls. Walked as I was knackered.

Travel home.

Running 32:00 [2] 5.64 km (5:40 / km) +113m 5:09 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 August 2014

Got out of work early so time for a short outing with Mapp. Few stops to wait for him - apparently he had done 20 miles or so the day before accompanying a bike ride so he was flagging a little.

Too late for SYO event (urban anyway so not too fussed).

Running 53:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:53 / km) +330m 4:59 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 August 2014

Girvan - Hadyard run.
Garmin still off for repair / replacement so time etc. approximate (probably slower than this - and I had to stop for a rest...)
Back really playing up over the past two weeks - no real respite even when lying down. Adrenalin is about the only thing that helps...
