My right knee had been painful since the end of the race yesterday and was complaining during the warm up today but was ok during the course.
Nice wood; a bit of undergrowth, but this was no real impediment even where no other competitors had flattened it.
I was running a little too quickly and made several costly errors:
#4 Unsure of my position when emerging out onto the path. Went up when I should have gone down. 1m
#5 Misread the map and was looking on the end of the spur rather than on the side. 2m 20s
#6 Unmapped bushes meant I looked a little early, then upon reaching the correct bushes the pit seemed to be relatively too low. 1m 10s
#9 Poor direction out of the control and one path too far north. Lucky to spot the building and rectify the error before I started looking in the wrong block. 45s
#10 Poor direction through the open and ended up running through the OOB... No benefit to me and there were no bikers so hopefully this doesn’t warrant disqualification... 30s
#14 Again went off line in the open, taking a poor route and then overshooting the control. 45s
#15 A little hesitant and route not sufficiently direct. 10s
#20 Dropped to path as planned but confused as to my position when features didn’t fully match. Very cautious into the flag. 30s
#23 Set off down a small wall prior to the gully but quickly rectified. 10s
#F Stuck behind about four slow people with no way to pass. 10s
7m 30s time loss, about the same time I finished (2nd!) behind Al Buckley.
Disappointing.
