Second leg of journey south. Definitely better than this time last week (heated seat helped), but still seemingly a long way to go.
Then I drove (!) my car back from Sheffield. Back to work tomorrow...

Have concluded (at this stage of my 'recovery') that prolonged enforced sitting moves pain up out of my calf / hamstring / glute into my back. Hence after the drive to the arena walking is more tolerable than from a 'lying' start. However, too much sitting is to be avoided (according to physio and I agree).
Took Mapp across the river for a walk around the Day 5 area; visited a few control sites as well as the impressive Plodda Falls. Then scenic Loch Ness travel south to Perth.

3km to arena meant I gave it a miss today - sounds as if the forest was sufficiently rough that this was a wise decision.
Did the local walk thrice, but worsened every time - striking the balance between rest and moderate activity is difficult.

Walked part of the course again. Embarrassingly announced on the 'run-in'.
Lost about a stone in weight in the last month.

Last night was noteworthy in that it was the first time I haven't had to get up in the night at least once to reheat the wheat bags to be able to get back to sleep. Still woke up; just fell asleep again almost straight away.

This good omen, together with the flat / dry forest, meant that I felt tackling some of the course might just be possible. Walked to the start and then continued virtually straight back via the few controls that were on the way.

Only really problematic point was the steep drop from the edge of the forest to the farmland - had to detour round.

Quite an effort - lots of lying down to recover for the rest of the day. Pleased to be able to do something anyway even if I was the slowest person in the entire forest... Saying that, navigation at this speed is so straightforward that I managed to beat somebody on one split ;)

The official rest day. Saw some watery sights of Inverness.

Quiz in evening - 3rd!

Note

Stayed behind at the cottage today given that the Arena was 2km from the parking - probably wise to have an easier day. Walked slowly along the river a couple of times and enjoyed a bit of sunshine for the third day in a row!

Note

Travelled to Day 1. Stumbled around the car park a bit. Walked some of the way to the Green start. Shuffled to the B/R road crossing and back. Interspersed rests.

Note

Feeling slightly improved again in the morning. Painful journey to Inverness - 7 hours - but could have been worse - luxury manoeuvrable car seat made it tolerable (along with several stops).

Managed a short walk today without really having to stop :)

Note
(injured)

Slept for 5 hours straight initially and feeling the best I have done in a while when I woke the second time.

Walk / bus to physio - bit more spritely and managed to reduce the number of stoppages. Acupuncture once again.

Going to head up to Scottish, what state I'll be in once (if) I get there I don't know...
