Black Glen Affric

Missed the opportunity to run here at the Scottish so pleased to have a chance today with work falling nicely around it :)

Hit #1 ok despite being a little hesitant due to an unmapped open area just before control. For #2 I was looking a little far down re-entrant but ok.
#3 Got carried away racing a Brown competitor beneath crags, then when I headed across (too late) spotted patch of green in next re-entrant over and headed to that in error. Relocated after spotting control above on boulder [2m 30s]
#4 Took easier approach round south side of hill.
#5 Again, rushed initial navigation (other competitors / photographer) meaning I went the wrong side of the initial hill than planned. Suspected this was the case but wasn’t sure (too misty to see very far ahead at this stage) so carried on. Relocated from stream and had to climb back up steep slope [100]
#6 and #7 ok; big features to use here.
#8 Didn’t have a very good plan – just set off running down path of least resistance along linear marsh initially, then just trying to relocate whilst moving in roughly the right direction. Extra climb and hesitancy ensued [120]
#9 Seemed to have a large climb at the end of the leg so must have lost height mid-leg unnecessarily [30]
#10-#12 Big linear marsh feature to use made these straightforward.
#13 Dropped into wrong (western) re-entrant initially [30]
#14 Set off without a plan – bounced off loch below [25]
#15 A little east initially but used boulders to rectify.
#16 Couldn’t decide on best route. Still hard to say now. The mist was lingering at the time making it difficult to follow the chosen line in any case.
#17 Put off by hatching on straight line route, but drifted a long way east – loose general nav [120]
#18 Had seen Murray catching me; I went round and he went straight; he beat me there.
#19 Decided to take my own route and follow rides to keep it simple.
#20 Racing a random old guy so actually sped up my plod slightly.
#21-#24 Big features / following ridges so no problems to speak of.

Areas for improvement (as ever); keeping concentration on longer legs and when other competitors are encountered. Physically not particularly tired at the end; felt like I could have carried on plodding for a good while, but no higher gear to change to.
