shoes: Saucony Guide 8 - 2016

Warmer than I thought it might be, a bit of a run with A down to the trails at Marott. Sprinkly, with a bit of map reading

Peach Mountain meet by SMOC, 12 k
Meet 15, course 20

Fun course, terrain was interesting
20 min whopper on the 5th leg of this score-O. Lost contact, and any sense of distance. Didn't stop fast enough but realized that I needed to get back to something I could recognize. Blindly fought through the mist, briars and dying pine seedlings ultimately back to a trail. Trail lead to road. Checked it out and was pretty sure where I was but the trails didn't all match up so I still thought I had overrun myself further. Off to a trail junction, seemed correct, back down the trail, noticed a Y-ed dotted ditch and felt comforted. Went on my merry way. Took most of 10 legs to get my head cleared out. Glad I went to this event, still cleared only 30 min behind Aragorn and dersu, and felt like most but not all of my other navigation was good.

Lesson learned: relocate off of at least 3 features if possible. If one (in this case a segment of trail that had overgrown to the point of invisibility) doesn't make sense but two others work, go for it. If you are right, map contact from there on out will seal the deal.

Added: 2 km added before I turned my watch on.

31-32-35-45-58-64-51(very slow av +3 min)-40-55-43-63(went around the med and light green to E on trail, apparently unnecessarily, + 90s)-60-53-49-71(route to S might have been quicker but the trail was fast and a known quantity)-44-48-47-54(poor route choice S then traversed E, 2.5 min)-56-52-59-61-57-42-41-65(57-41-65-42 would have been better wrt climb as was made clear to me after)-73-34-33-F
