After 4 days of pained walking and Boehner-esque wincing while climbing stairs, I decided to try to move on. A warmup on the bike, some stretching, and a slow run. The main goal was to just warm up my calves and have them be no worse afterwards.

And then Brenda was ready to go out for her run, so I ran along for this as well. Everything stiffened in the short interlude but improved during the run. Afterwards, we went to REI to buy The Stick for yet another way to abuse me after I abuse me.
