Note
weight:177lbs (rest day)

Made the crazy drive all the way from Detroit yesterday after the race. Only possible because Rena and Jasper both slept a good chunk of the afternoon. Still didn't get home until 1:00 and then both of the kids needed some attention to get settled. I think I'll take today off.

Orienteering race 2:45:45 [3] **** 12.89 km (12:52 / km) +357m 11:18 / km
25c shoes: Vasque Spur

I am extremely happy with this run. I was slow, and made some mistakes, but not huge mistakes and I was always in contact with the map. I don't have the map or my splits in front of me, so a more detailed look later.
The terrain was very similar to Telemark, so the work setting there last fall definitely helped. After the long i decided not to sell my compass and take up basketmaking.

Orienteering race 1:48:25 [3] **** 5.5 km (19:43 / km) +240m 16:11 / km
spiked:9/16c shoes: Vasque Spur

A few good legs. A few smaller mistakes. One big mistake. And one HUGE mistake on leg 14 (20 minutes or more) when I was completely not in touch with the map. Considered heading back in to DNF. I am happy that for the most part that I slowed down and read the features. One of the legs I made a big mistake on I walked it and still drifted off line. I will look at tomorrow as experience.

Orienteering race 22:05 [5] *** 2.8 km (7:53 / km) +65m 7:04 / km
spiked:12/13c weight:177lbs shoes: Vasque Spur

I had a really good run going until #10. Took a different route than the people I was with, which I think was pretty good, then began to second guess myself. Thought I had overrun the control, and lost confidence. Looking at the splits, this was a 5 minute mistake. Regrouped, got to the control and then finished the last 3 with no errors. I will again take the positives from this one and look toward tomorrow.

Note

Finished the LONG drive to Detroit. Rena is not a fan of her carseat. If she was awake, she was crying.
I am feeling sick.
Scootered around the block multiple times while Jasper tried out his new bike. Looking forward to this weekend's courses. Not looking forward to the drive home.

Rowing 55:00 [3] 7.0 km (7:51 / km)

Last day of Macalester practice, and they were short a body. One of the rowers wwanted to cox so I jumped in. Felt fun to be on the water on a perfect morning. Now life can get back close to "normal."

Orienteering 52:00 [3] *** 4.5 km (11:33 / km) +40m 11:04 / km
spiked:9/10c

Control picking at Lebanon Hills. I would have liked to have been on a map a lot more this spring, but it just wasn't in the cards. Had fun today. I scared up a red fox, followed a flock of turkeys for awhile and saw a snowy egret.
Oh yeah, I did okay staying with the map.
