Traveled 5.86 miles or 9.7K for the 6.8K course. I am glad I dropped down to Green for this event. I would never have lasted for a Red course.

Course was not very good and very subject to "luck" factor. Many control sites used by multiple courses so there were lots of people in some areas which could help some people get lucky at the control. There were also some dog legs.

start - 1: Very technical right out of the start. Listed as middle reentrant in a circle that contains a bunch of tiny reentrant. I saw the clue description was bottom part so I finally went down a reentrant and attacked from the bottom. Had to then climb right back out of the very steep reentrant. Not a good control location.
-2: Went trail around but I cut up the side trail over the spur and back to the trail. Cut down the hill at the first trail bend around the reentrant. First chance in the woods. The mountain laurel is definitely slow moving. There are also a lot of down trees so you can just bash you way through.
-3: down the reentrant. Map has it as light green but there were so many down trees that it was hard to run. Had to run around things crawl over/under them (very hard my my back muscle which was hurting doing all the bending over. As I got to 3 there were 3-4 people coming in right behind me. Another dog leg getting out of the control.
-4: Though about going straight buy was now shy of reentrants and thick woods. I went trail part way around cutting the corner. Led about 3 people to the control.
-5: Woods to thick to run through and hill to big to go over anyway so I tookd the trail around. At one point my watch said was running my normal 8:30 mile pace down the road. Some hesitation on the final approach.
-6: Knew this would be a risky control. I didn't peg the control and then wandered. Looking for control in the green. There were about 10 people wandering around looking for the control. When I finally found it I almost ran right by it as it was tucked behind a bush. Lost a bunch of time.
--7: Very slow getting through the green.
-8: Out to the road. I couldn't find a way into the woods across the road. Had to run up the road to find a break in the green. I got to high. When I hit the reentrant I adjusted but apparently didn't correct enough and was now past the control. Didn't see the ride. Went further east. When I saw deer corn feeder I thought it was the stone pile. I went back the way I came. Finally saw a line of people running up what I determined was the ride. They stopped when they saw me. I ran down the bend to confirm where I was then went to the control. All the people on the ride followed me to the control. I lost lots of time but saved them lots of time.
-9: Took the road all the way around the bend. Line of people behind me following me.
-10: Contoured tot he big trail then followed it down hill to the bend area. I didn't see the other smaller trail out of the pool area. Like many of the controls, a lot of people were going to/from the depression which wasn't a depression but a marshy area.
-11: I was a little low on the final approach.
-12: To the clearing and down to hill to the stream. Up stream to the reentrant.
-13: Made a minor mistake climbin and extra spur.
