Orienteering49:49 [2] 4.63 mi (10:46 / mi) +41m10:28 / mi
This is the part of the training after the Garmin kicked on for good. This is the end of my session with Zach (I think after all controls were completed) after which he stopped at the car and I looped over to the west side of the park to grab the three controls there.
Orienteering48:17 [3] 3.5 km (13:48 / km)
Distance is a guess for now. Did some of the Mendon Ponds permanent course with Zach - 9 controls in the southeast, excluding the 3 most southern controls. Zach navigated, I just followed. He did a real nice job reading the contours on the 1:15 map and his only real issue was seeing the actual marker a couple of times.
Running around during the Bulldog Invite at Alden. The silly 12 meet rule, coupled with the ridiculous counting of two varsity meets in one day (EA and Pawling) meant that our Varsity had to sit this out. And most of the juniors had PSATs, so we were a small squad.
I ran around during the Mod Girls (nice run by Shelby), then our races, and the EA races.
Running around before and during the XC meet at Webster Park. Our girls managed a 2-2 split in the first race, despite competing against 3 of the top teams in the state, losing to Fairport (#4 in Class AA) and Penfield (#18 in Class AA), but defeating Sutherland (#10 in Class A) and Athena.
The boys beat Penfield, Fairport and Athena comfortably, but were just a bit too far back from Sutherland's pack - they are ranked #2 in the state in Class A, so making them earn the victory over us is a moral victory.
The times were incredibly fast today. Val (19:30), Amanda (19:31) and Annelise (20:30) posted the #1, 2 and 4 times for Schroeder at Webster Park (#3 was Val last year), with Sarah (20:35) adding #6 and Alaina (21:18) #10.
AJ ran 15:50, which was just 8 seconds off the course record, which was set in the epic season-ending battle of unbeaten teams in 2008 (Mendon, Thomas, Brockport, Brighton). The top 6 went under 16 in that race. No one else had until AJ did it alone today. Geoff (16:32) was faster than Nico last year and JMatt (16:44) was only 1 second slower than Nico. Joe was our 7th man in 17:24.
And Zach ran 18:54 (but did not quite get nate's freshman time of 18:37 - nate was our 7th man in that race, 14 seconds behind #3, today he would have been 12th, just like Zach, almost 2 minutes behind #3).
