Running 1:22:30 [2] 10.3 mi (8:01 / mi)

I guess this entry never made it last Saturday. That's what I get for trying to use a Mac.

We got to see Chelsea race on the Charles this AM, and saw her first victory, as her Lightweight boat beat a couple of Simmons Openweight boats.

After, everyone wanted some brunch, but I needed to get in a run before driving back to Salem to see the Sabres on TV (had to give up my game ticket to visit Chelsea). So, I headed out along the Charles from the MIT boathouse. I wanted to go for an hour, so I took Mt Auburn to Fresh Pond, decided to go part way around, then decided to go all the way around. I hadn't been there since perhaps the fall of 1984, but I guess seeing the map posted from CSU's park-o got me back there. It was interesting - I had never noticed the old RR bed, nor the random trails. Not sure if I was always just focused, or too busy BSing with my teammates, but I always had the impression that the trail around the pond was boxed in on both sides.

Came back via Brattle to Harvard Sq - JFK - Mem Dr - Magazine - Central Sq to finish at Asgard.

Running intervals 27:29 intensity: (17:00 @2) + (10:29 @5) 3.9 mi (7:03 / mi)

I could not afford to strike out, with a third straight missed day, but I was busy at work, had to scramble to make copies, buy stamps, etc, and get to track practice. And I had to leave practice early, to get to the Sabres game (they edged the Bruins, 2-1 to open the playoffs - I can't use my Game 2 ticket, since we are heading to, ironically, Boston to visit / cheer for Chelsea.

So, I did a w/up (13 minutes) while the varsity boys did their dynamic stuff (the JVs were at a meet), then did 2 x 800 (400 recovery) on the cinder track at Schroeder, while they did their warm-up. After they started their workout (4 laps, 3, 2, 1, 4 x 3 person continuous 200m relay), I gave a split, ran 200m, jogged across the infield (we were using the old school start/finish line), gave another split, etc. Fit 6 in before I had to leave.

2 x 800: 3:11, 3:07
6 x 200: 42, 44, 40, 41, 43, 41

Note
(rest day)

All spare time today was spent preparing tax returns for nate and us. Luckily (or sadly?), Chelsea did not have to file, although she may later, to get a few bucks back from Massachusetts.

I was up until almost 3am doing the taxes. It was the first time that I had to deal with the "kiddie tax" form, which is a giant pain. And don't get me started on the damn AMT. There must have been over 20 times where I had to calculate the taxes on some amount in order to complete a line on a form, schedule or worksheet.

Busy day at work and so I was late leaving for the track meet. I was too hungry and worn out to run after the meet.

It was a very nice meet. We took care of Thomas, 92-49, winning all but 4 events. We had five 4x800 relays again, with a nice intrasquad competition going (plus I think 4 relays were ahead of Thomas before the last leg, although Thomas did not use the big 3). We had 17 kids in the 1600m race, and many (most? nearly all?) set PRs - very exciting. We lost the 800m, but barely and only because we had AJ do the first-ever (that I have seen) 200-3200 double (after winning the 400 in 50.something). Nate got outkicked in the 3200, but was coming off his first-ever 400 hurdle race, where he posted a very fine 62.5.

The most amazing race was not a distance race. At the end of the 4x100, our anchor kid almost missed receiving the handoff, basically came to a stop and was over 20m behind, but turned on some serious jets and caught the kid. Earlier, he had popped a 22.0 in the 200, to lower the school record he set two weeks ago.

Very easy run during Luke's baseball practice. Here is a very poor rendering of the route, but it gets the general idea across. I had left the Garmin out with Luke's baseball stuff, but forgot to grab it. There was a guy out with 4 small dogs (one seemed to be a corgi of the non-welsh variety) in the second northernmost field. I stopped and chatted for a minute while the dogs calmed down. He asked if I ran around there often - I told him very occasionally. He owns the northernmost field that I looped around, but was OK with me running there (I noticed there were no posted signs in the area), and he confirmed the field we were in was part of the sanctuary.

Flying Pig - Middle at East Fork Park

Not a bad start. Not real quick, but time loss was mostly hesitation and not navigation issues. That was until C6. I crossed the stream a little right of where I thought I was and climbed the hill, which was covered in green. I got hung up there a while and was getting quite frustrated. Finally, I crossed over to the next hill, went to the top to try to relocate and tripped over a fence. That helped with the relocation and I was able to go back and get the flag, but I had lost 11-12 minutes, which is a disaster on such a short course. It was a shame because I had tried harder to push thru the tougher areas today. I'm sure my splits are still a little on the slow side, but the effort was there.

Zach and Luke were each Interscholastic Champions. Luke was top again today. Zach was only 3rd, but not far behind, so his lead held up. nate moved up to second, thanks to a MSP.

Running warm up/down 9:00 [2] 1.06 mi (8:30 / mi)

Short w/up today, but I did add some A-, B-, C-skips, cherry pickers and karaokes to try to loosen up a bit (not included in the time).
