Orienteering 27:47 [4] 2.5 mi (11:07 / mi) +137m 9:30 / mi

Stuck in traffic so I missed my start time. Alex sent me out on the course as soon as I got there, so no warm-up or getting my concentration going. No GPS track until control 5 either.

So the first part of the course was sloppy and bad:

1: Too low, having to climb back up.
2: Idiotically over the hill instead of the path around. Then loosing another 20 seconds fiddling with my GPS (why do that while racing?).
3: Hesitant about right path downhill.
4:Over the hill this time should have been the right choice.
5: Went right around the lake when left seems shorter.
12: Went left to try to minimize distance to path, then fast on path. Don't know if that was the right choice.
13: Way too far right coming up the hill.

Semi-ok running, but the orienteering left much to be desired. I easily left 3-4 minutes out there.

Great fun after the race with BBQ and lots of food. Thanks to Alex, Larry and Sara Mae.

Running 47:28 [3] 4.96 mi (9:34 / mi) +31m 9:23 / mi

Dragging Ian out on an easy run. Quite slow, but needed since I was fairly tired. I did not do forefront as my calves were tight and tired today. It felt like they loosened up by the run.

I had looked forward to Ian's famous turkey tacos today, showing off his heritage. It was not to be though as he bailed at the last minute, making up an excuse about a burrito.

Running intervals 14:19 [5] 2.26 mi (6:20 / mi) +1m 6:20 / mi

Intervals. Doing the short program today, but all on forefront. The difference in gait is more pronounced on the track with the fast intervals. The calves are much more tired, and legs do not feel at all as powerful. Still I am clocking about the same times.

800m: (1:34.7, 1:43.2): 3:17.9 (6:38 min/mile)
400m: 1:36.5 (6:26 min/mile)

Note

I found a deer tick today. I looked yesterday but I somehow missed this one. It was attached a little bit above my arm pit, on the front of my shoulder. I was only out in the woods yesterday, so I got Doxycycline prescribed and I am taking it in a couple of hours.
7 PM

Running 44:21 [4] 5.39 mi (8:14 / mi) +6m 8:12 / mi

Pushed a little bit harder on my run today. I went from Ian's down to the river and then along the river for a while.

3.5 miles on forefront
Rest with middle/heel

Unfortunetly, I had to go alone today since Ian is crippled after the weekend's adventures.

Running warm up/down 7:14 [3] 0.8 mi (9:00 / mi) +2m 8:56 / mi

Orienteering race 54:14 [3] 3.72 mi (14:35 / mi) +113m 13:19 / mi

New map but an old one. Going out on green (the longest one) and the orienteering went pretty well. The map was mostly ok, but it was a little bit harder to run then the map indicates. Not really anything green, but a lot of undergrowth. I didn't push too hard, but a comfortable pace at a fairly good clip.

2: The control might have been on the wrong boulder according to my GPS.
11: Turned off the path too early. Think there was an unmapped boulder, or the boulder on the map was further south.
12: Went quickly out to the path due to the undergrowth, but I should have gone left instead.
