Orienteering 1:12:38 [3] *** 4.68 mi (15:32 / mi) +240m 13:24 / mi
spiked:12/12c rhr:56 slept:8.0

I went out to Mashamoquet Brooke State Park to do the local NEOC meet. Things were pretty slow going worrying about the ankle, and I did a small miss-step going to 5. The foot hurt after that, but not enough to stop me running. Maybe a bad idea. It is frustrating though, because it is continueing 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Worrying that I will do something permanent at some point. I keep continuing to improve my taping, but I have obviously not gotten it right, since I am still able to do miss-steps.

The terrain was great though, and Carl had put on a great course. With my slow running, I didn't have any problem with the orienteering, spiking all the controls. The forest was all open apart from thick patches of mountain laurel.

Orienteering 1:02:00 [3] 6.75 km (9:11 / km)
rhr:52 slept:7.5

SUCCESS! I went back out to Breakheart to run the course again that I did two weaks ago and had so much trouble with my ankle. This time it felt a lot better, and I was able to run a big part of the course. 21 controls, and 5.25km direct line. I had done a thorough taping, and that seemed to give my foot and ankle great support. It was slow going though as I was extra careful running, and my orienteering suffered since I stopped a lot of times checking the map. I was scared of running and reading the map at the same time, with the increased risk of a misstep.

This was a huge step forward, and hopefully my confidence running in the woods including reading while running will slowly come back.

I forgot my GPS though, so my timing and distance is somewhat approximate.

My wife joined me again, doing a 5k loop through the reservation (the main road) following along on the map.

I am sluggish this week, so even my easy run was pretty painful.

Running long 1:24:37 [3] 9.8 mi (8:38 / mi) +169m 8:12 / mi
rhr:52 slept:6.0

Still feeling a little bit slow after my race, so I thought a long run might be good. I haven't done one for a while either. I went for a slower pace, both because of feeling tired but also that I don't do a lot of those.

The temperature was perfect in the mid-50's. It would be great if that was the temperature for longer periods during the year.
