southern champs 2012 - epping forest

annoyed about this , 3rd bad run in 3 weeks , i went off at a crawling pace , maybe to slow , i felt like i was on a recovery run , i did this to be accurate, hit 1 fine , 2 fine , 3 was very bingo , lost 40 secs , then on 4 i drifted way to far to the right , and hit the wrong stream , relocated which took a while and lost 3 mins , i then went back to my slow pace , missed 5 , 6,7,8 ok , missed 10 , 11 fine , was pretty dissapointed with 12 as a control site, very bingo , lost 1 minute , 13 missed slightly , 14 ok , 15 i went off 180 degrees the wrong way but realised quickly and got back on track , then missed the control site in the circle by a fair shout +3 mins , then at the timed crossing i relaised just how slow i was going so i decided to pick up the pace .

bad selection

took me ages to relocate on 18 , straight wasnt a good route , lost about 5 mins , not pleased , 19 fine , 20,21 fine , i caught jamie parkinson here , fast runner , his navigation was all over the place though , accidently went off 90 degrees wrong to 23 , and hit the big path near the road , +2 mins , then just jogged in .

annoyed because i ran to slow , and stil managed to miss most of them , however i felt very fit , i felt like i was warming down the whole race and still managed an ok pace , vauge vague area, not to sure about the path mapping ? , vegitation seemed pretty legit though .

2nd to matt +59 secs , groin a little sore from yesterday near the end , but its fine just a wee tweak , knees down both my dissabilities were ok .

need to sort out my navigation!!

still southern champion , got my buff , job done

Orienteering race (London city race 2012 ) 1:00:53 [4] **** 12.75 km (4:47 / km)
spiked:26/30c shoes: Inov8 Terrafly 303

London city race 2012

A really nice sunny day in London , started well and pretty quick , hit them all at the beggining , then a slight cock up on 4 when I a) took a bad route and b) accidently went along the wrong road :O + 45 secs , their went into the barbican where I was slow and hesitant , took a bad route to 10 and hesitated loads but I got there ok , then 11 really annoyed me where I ran past it and then down the steps and under the bridge , thinking it was underneath , dam no , back up to the top of the steps + 1 min , at this point both my quads started to really really ache , I think it's from the race the other night and this and to much fast road running is bad . Cruised back in to the finish , keeping it marginally clean , but my pace dropped a bit as my quads were just so sore , a good course , I think if was a bit more boring than last years .

23rd on men's elite , Peter hodkinson won in about 52., best British junior , 3rd best international to a m20 and a m18 , got my buff , job done .

Warming up just jogging along the prom , nothing fancy

Running race (Weston prom run (5 mile) ) 29:08 [5] 8.13 km (3:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Terrafly 303

Weston prom run , along the Weston super mare sea front

Was in 2 mins wether to do this as I was quite tired also not sure wether it was to much for my leg , but seeing as running improves my leg I decided to give it a go . Previous best time for this was 30:31 I think back last November which was my peak fitness of last season . I decided to got for a 3:40 pace not knowing if my body could keep to it , but it could so I sped up to 3:30 after the turn around , again classic Weston , with strong headwind on the way out , and a tailwind on the way back . Felt reasonably good , felt bits of my body aching after that I dont usually consider when running such as my jaw and my abs , pretty pleased to get sub 30 and beat my pb by over a minute , And 11 secs of felix's pb ( I think ) so all in all a good run , it has really messed up my body though :/

Running long (long map run (st george)) 1:22:01 [3] 15.82 km (5:11 / km) +285m 4:45 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 Terrafly 303

long run in my free period , from st brendans down through st annes to crews hole , to make it more of a good and worthwhile session i got paul to email me the st George ocad file , and i planned myself a 40 control course round his st george map , i had a 2 min break and then went at long steady run pace around the course , yet again i really enjoyed the bit on troopers hill which made a really good bit of variance to the urban environment , i planned some controls on some new rocky sections which were right at the bottom of the map which i think are old mine workings , the urban event courses didnt go down here, but the map seemed pretty decent on them , quite a hilly course , but it wasnt to bad as i was running at quite a laid back pace. , then finished off by running about 15 mins back . the spilts were, 19 mins to get there (4km) about a (9km-actual length)and then about another (2km) run back before i warmed down.

was good fun , cheers for the map paul!
