On a flyer (except 30s error on 9), and forgot to punch 22 on the second time past. Bugger. 94 points down the drain

SINS Day 3, Brown Clee, Course 2 M35

I actually thought this was my best race of the three cross country races, but apparently I'm wrong. I guess the rough open just doesn't suit me as I can't seem to run through it, while everyone else can. Dunno how.

A bit loose to 1, fine to 2. I thought I was ok to 3, but I seem to have lost a couple of minutes. Will have to see if it was route choice, or if it was just physical (uphill, followed by marshy tussocks). Missed 4 a little, then fine through to 17. Missed the crossing to 18 to the right, then very slow to 19. Took it carefully, and still missed it. Fine 20, 21 and home.

I think about 5 minutes in errors max, but somehow I got beaten by more than the other days, and only 1210 points

Angus scored enough points in the Urban to stay ahead of me in the rankings...

Springtime in Shropshire Day 2, Hopton, Course 2 M35

Quite a tough area. Very hilly, and tough runnability Supposed directional runnability was questionable.

Ok 1-3. Buggered 4 right royally. Vague and slow to 5. Fine 6 - 13. A bit right at 14 where I caught Angus. A bit high at 15, good for 16. Went storming down the hill towards 17 to try to get away from Angus, but it didn't seem to fit when I got there, and he caught back up. Came out of 17 wrong, but otherwise ok to 18, then 19 - 21. Too short for 22, misread a ride as a N/S line! Ok 23 and home, although it was weird.

About 10 mins total in errors, so again surprised to get 1230 points.

SINS Urban race in Ludlow, Course 1 Mens Open

Was having a pretty decent race until 11, running pretty well and keeping Geoff Ellis behind me. Then stuffed 11. Got confused by the dodgy mapping coming out of 10 to the south, then thought I was somewhere else, and looked for an alley that didn't exist. At least 1:30 lost. Wrong way to 13, 15s. Didn't plan the castle section when I had the chance from 13 to 14, so messed up 20 (under the bridge). Got caught out by a completely missing wall at 21, had a 50/50 choice which way to go around it and got it wrong. Loose and slow for 22, 23 and home.

Should have been a really good race. Still not bad, 1223 points, which is actually a bit less than I'd have thought given the good points for other screw ups

SINS Day 1, Croft Castle, Course 2 M35

Great weather and lovely scenery. Shoddy map coupled with terrible navigating. Fairly decent running, despite the conditions underfoot (brashings, brambles etc)

Stupidly crashed across the wide green screen on the way to 1 rather than sticking to the path. It was impossible to run, should have been a tight screen at least. Went too far down the hill on the fence to 2, rather than along the veg boundary. On the way up to 3 there was another unmapped hide that was bigger than the control feature. I was where I thought I was, but seeing a hide and aiming for the only one mapped in the vicinity I had to check it out. Wrong, and a loss of time and elevation. 4, although I'd aimed off correctly, I got confused when I hit the fence and went the wrong way (I must have been just before the crossing). 5 I tried to drop down to it from a track bend, which was mapped much more distinctly than it was on the ground. Buggered it right royally for 3:30. So by 5 I was down by about 7:30 already.

Clean to 6, ok to 7, clean to 8, 9, 10. 11 I think the mapper just decided it was all a bit too difficult and just gave up. Missed a minute trying to guess. 12 there was another missing feature same as the control feature preceding it by 100m or so. Lost another minute.

13, 14 (although I tried to run past it), 15, 16, 17, 18 all fine. 19 a bit wide left. 20, 21 ok. Got a bit confused at 22 by which patch of fight I was running past, lost another minute. 23, 24, 25 all fine.

All in all 11 minutes of mistakes at least. Surprised to find I got 1218 ranking points. I don't think this run deserved that.
