British Champs Urban Event, Dorking.

Beaten by Dan by 16s. Slow on the first couple, and that put me behind for the whole race. Would have caught him if not for small mistakes on 26, 29 and 31. Bugger. Still, good to be back and competitive. Looking forward to the Park Series

British Relay Champs. 1st leg of Mens Premier, SLOW 3rd team.

Pretty decent run. Was hanging off the back with an EBOR kid pretty early. Ed was screwing up at the start to keep us company. Late on I had Colin and Jonathan Albon from CHIG for company. Very interesting to compare the straight route with the square route. Definitely better for me to take the square. Colin was killing me over the terrain, but I could keep up running sqrt 2 further but on the paths. Albon just kept making mistakes to keep me in it. Ultimately couldn't hold him on the drag up the spur to 19. Should have bombed out to the track.

Was good to be paired with Dan and Ollie. All about the same time, so no issues of screwing up or getting let down. Good day

British Orienteering Champs, M35L, Course 6 at Winterfold and Pitch Hill

A bit disappointed by how far I was from the leaders today (30mins+), given that my endurance felt miles better than normal (obviously), although I still suck at running over terrain. Quick guess is about 10 minutes of errors, so I'd have hoped for more like +20 than +30. +20 on Jev, and he said he walked up the hills too...

Without looking at splits or routegadget yet:

1) A bit conservative to the right, hit the fence a bit low, +30s
2) Hesitant coming into the control but no real problem
3) Gave up on running through the "white" forest, ran the tracks well, but then didn't push into the middle of the circle and dithered a bit, +30s
4) Ok, appropriately cautious into the control I think
5) Misread the crags above the track and ended up a way to the left and had to contour back around, +2min
6) Fine right up until the end, got distracted by an elite and must have just about run past it looking the wrong direction and had to double back, +90s or so
7) Fine but slow
8) Went right to get the water, stuck my attack point (clearing), but must have gone straight past it looking at a different thicket, +1min
9) Ok, a little slow getting to the crossing point
10) Good
11) A little confused by the drinks and looked for it a bit early, but not bad
12) Left and all the way along the road. Executed it ok. Hills sucked. It might have been slightly better to go to the right, but not sure
13) A bit slow trying to get back into reading the map, but not too bad
14) Fine
15) Somehow managed to get onto the wrong side of the ridge off about 90 degrees pretty close to the control. Could have been a lot worse, +2min
16) A little slow approaching, but ok
17) Good
18) Hesitant right at the control, difficulty spotting the depression
19) Ok
20) Oops, ended up getting dragged left by each ditch / gully, and ended up about 100m down, having to relocate. Figured out what I must have done eventually, +2min, maybe more
21) Fine
