Bike 1:17:04 [3] 14.22 mi (5:25 / mi) +303m 5:05 / mi
ahr:111 shoes: Bike - Trek Mad One

Steady up Rakes Lane & out over Birkrigg. Scales, Gleaston & then took on Dendron hill in bottom gear. Going easy and it wasn't huge problem. Back around edge of Dalton through the lanes, then dropped back into the Urswicks and home. Some coughing early but no problem.
Very cold day & snow all over Old Man & surrrounding fells. Managed to get back just before the hail storm.

Note

Drove back to Ulverston & into isolation.

Been thinking about the incubation period for the virus, and when I might have contracted it. Clearly there is some time when you have the virus, and it is affecting you, before you get any "known" symptoms.

Haven't slept well for 10 days, and had a real suffer on Thursday 17th, so perhaps that was the start of it? Symptoms only started the following Wednesday, which I put down to unusual warm sunny weather giving me a "hot" but not sore throat feeling at Fonthill.

Orienteering race 50:49 [4] 3.22 mi (15:47 / mi) +144m 13:51 / mi
ahr:135 max:169 shoes: Ice Bug

Had another very poor night's sleep (or lack of), awake nearly every hour.

British Relays M60 - 2nd leg with Derek Fryer (1st) and then Andy Robinson (3rd).

Derek seemed to do pretty well and I knew I had to keep the navigating clean as fitness not there. All went well, slight wobble for 15secs at #6 when I was stood in the re-entrant and flag the other side of some coppiced trees. Rest of the controls appeared where expected until near the end. Then had to find a distinctive tree when there were several coniferous along the tiny earthbank.

Managed to run up the hill to finish :o)
2 PM

Note

Drove straight back to mums for 2 hours & had feeing progressively worse so took covid test - +ve.
Bang goes northern champs weekend.

Orienteering race 58:00 [3] 3.56 mi (16:18 / mi) +120m 14:45 / mi
ahr:134 max:148 shoes: INOV8 X-Talon 225

BOC Long - Golden Valley.
Had been looking forward to this for a long time, but on the day wasn't happening.

Haven't managed a proper nights sleep in a week, and the last 3 nights down in Melksham have been especially poor. Awake nearly every hour the night before. Throat really sore and coughing quite a bit before the start.

As usual with a Dave Peel map, couldn't understand the vegetation on the way to #1, but although hesitant managed to spike it. #2 slightly off line going down the slope but corrected and ok.
Much faffing leaving #2 on start of first long leg. Ended up wasting 2 or 3 mins in some unmaked scrot by poor route choice and then took a long right loop around some OOB. This proved to be significantly slower than the left loop, which I had initially seen, but changed my mind on leaving the control . . . doh!
Just not going well and feeling weak (tested +ve for covid on Sunday evening :-( )

Tim Tett caught me 15mins after I had been going for 35mins on way to #5 so after a few more controls called it a day at #9 (of 20).

ahr:138 max:173 shoes: INOV8 X-Talon 225

MLS - Fonthill. Blue course. Appalling map - vegetation not representative - huge new fence added in south of area not on the map between #10 & #11.

Good to get into a southern area with very small features to find. Not enough looking at compass through first few controls.
Quite warm day - left leg hammies feeling sore from drive south yesterday.

Map says 7.1km with 160m - I have counted 285m on the map!

Throat sore - start of covid symptoms?

ahr:115 max:142 shoes: VJ Bold

LOC long race - Caw. Long walk out to the start in chilly wind.
First 2 controls into the wind & never seemed to get going.
Clean through the first loop to the wall crossing, then overtaken by John Embrey & in hurrying to stay within sight I lost control of where I was on way to #11. He missed the control (of course) and I made a minute or so error. Plod through the lower slopes through final 5 or 6 kites.

Run 1:10:35 [4] 5.18 mi (13:38 / mi) +163m 12:25 / mi
ahr:151 max:165 shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4

A sufferfest from Red Syke Bridge. Started with many layers in cold wind and grey skies, looked like rain. By the time I followed paths around to candle factory at Lindal, skies beginning to clear. By the time I had climbed Lindal moor to edge of Marton then beginning to overheat and HR climbing.
Calves felt very tight on tarmac through Marton so eased off. Managed to jog uphill towards Carr Kettle, but descent not fluid with stiff legs.
Even after removing top jacket still so warm and problems with sweat stinging my eyes.

Same loop as Sunday walk. Gawthaite to Blawith Knott & return.

Hadn't slept well last two nights so not sure about this but ground it out. Last bit back into a breeze which kept it honest. Aiming to mimic British long time - hope it won't be this long on the 26th.
Legs never felt very good, no rhythm to the turnover.
Took a gel as I climbed onto the Blawith Knott ridge after 45mins.
