Easy on Birkrigg & around Sea Wood with Rachel in some sunshine. Surprisigly dry underfoot given the rain. Neither of us going at all well - couple of spots where walking was the name of the game.

Dalton O after 3 days heavy rain. Fields sodden & muddy & slippery.

Steady into the wind to start. Bottom of green lane out of Little Urswick a stream. Lots of bananas through fields avoiding the cows. Left achilles gave occasional twinge. Real positive was to catch a weather window & avoid the next bank of rain.

A very wet day! Drove out to Broughton Beck & started along the cumbrian way footpaths.

Across to Knapperthaw Farm, and then headed north to Lowick Common wind & rain at my back.
Exploring the bracken clearance, some footpaths become huge, some still tiny & overgrown with bracken & briars. Dropped off the eastern edge & followed soggy green lane between Beck Bottom & Wood End. Round to Summer Hill & then start climbing into the wiind & rain to High Scathwaite Farm. Had to walk some.
Planned to follow footpaths to Low Scathwaite but 3 fields in found a very frisky set of young heifers who came charging towards me. Discretion being the better part I nipped back across the stile, retraced my steps to the road section and followed road back into Broughton Beck.

Will make a pleasant loop once I have figured out Lowick Common, and how to avoid the frisky cows. Oh, and a fine day would help.

Drizzle had stopped so headed back out by myself. Over Birkrigg to Scales before next front arrived. Just approaching Little Urswick for the second time when drizzle started again & proper rain by the time I was leaving Great Urswick.

Much faffing as usual trying to find the correct footpaths . . .

Left hamstrings sore as usual afterwards.

Again torrential rain - having to Oring in cag.

Nice first half of the course, plenty of turns. Then couple of legs same as yesterday, and final half (above fence) criss-crossing central dune ridge leg after leg after boring leg.

Planning both days left something to be desired.
My fitness no better than yesterday.

British Long Champs - Brounton Burrows - M60L

Drove across on the morning - left 6:45am - arrived 9:30am having driven through heavy rain. Disgusting morning weather squalls coming through. Ran in long sleeved thermal plus short sleeve top plus cag & cap and still finished very cold & very wet.
Weather cleared for late starters post 2pm.

Missed #3 (2mins?) but until leg #13 - #14 was going slowly but ok. Managed to get on wrong side of some tall dunes and must have wasted several minutes. Happy to finish.
Negative winning time about 65mins.
Positive although left achilles sore and left calf cramped up it didn't force me to walk on the flat.

Have to say the course shape was pretty boring - orange/light green standard.
Hope tomorrows middle race is more interesting.
