Seathwaite Fell Cumbrian Galoppen - Blue course.
30 min walk uphill into the start and nice & warm at the top - didn't bother carrying my cag.
First loop of 5 to the east of Seathwaite Tarn navigated ok and then long leg to #6. Headed across the head of reservoir and then grind up the slope opposite. Found some nice hills to take me across the slope before final descent alongside the marshes down to control. Pleased with this.
Away to #7 another climb and compass to find a boulder, then climb again to #8. Away from #8 and mist had descended and rain started - picking out lumps and boulders and spiked #9. Downhill leg to #10 and although on compass ok, very little seemed to fit. WIth 2 others who overtook whilst I was being hesitant and they dropped slightly lower down the slope. After much peering at the map decided I was at the correct level just slightly north of the control. Ran across to small lump & found shallow reentrant.
Ok along slope to #11 & pretty good half way to #12. This was a difficult leg & I didn't have a strong plan, as well as being very wet & cold.
As I contoured across on roughly the correct line, spied a flag on a boulder below me - and like an absolute novice descended 20m through boulders to confirm that it was of course the wrong code :o(. Long grind back up the slope with very little fitting my "picture", but managed to stumble across the flag just as I was about to turn around.
Rushed plan to #13 and off line through small lumps. Had to relocate and bounce back to small crag. Much more careful to #14 & #15 both of which I spiked & into finish.
Slow crawl back down to assembly field.
Met up with Peter Scott who had walzed around the Blue in 64mins!
And Amelia, whose compass had stopped working on the Green long leg (#4 of 14?) and so was really pleased to finish in the mist & rain on map only.
