Orienteering Meet race 1:13:27 [5] *** 6.6 km (11:08 / km) +225m 9:30 / km
ahr:160 max:187 spiked:10/13c shoes: Icebug black 2

US long champs at Letchworth State Park. The Grand Canyon of the east.
Started out slow and conservative to one that I had to go through lots of green briars to get. Then it was nice running. #4 was sorta mis mapped, but I was the only one to see the fantom control west of the green stuff. No couses had the control... So I am crazy. I blew 5 bad as I drifted to the west and it the trail and went more west to the water stop and had to head up to the hill to the control and was not clean then either. # 6 had a choice of trail around or up big hill. I went up the big hill. Bad choice. Pretty clean the rest of the course. 3rd overall, 2 nd American.
GT had no time loss on the course compared to my 8 min time loss.
Tomorrow is the middle.

Orienteering Meet race 18:29 [5] *** 2.4 km (7:42 / km) +50m 6:58 / km
ahr:166 max:177 spiked:18/19c

US Sprint Championships, rochester, NY

Well a bit of a mistake to #4 as you had to cross the river and there were 2 bridges to choose. I took the shorter one and could not use the overpass freeway like I wanted. At least there was a trail/ bridge pass it to use.
The rest of the course was quick and fun.
2nd in M-60, so silver medal.

Cross Biking Rd/Trail 2:12:00 [3] 30.0 mi (4:24 / mi)

Started out like a summer ride and the cold north wind came exactly at the turnaround. Oh well had to hustle back in the cold.

Wolf Lake Trail race. This was 9 miles down the road from me at Bong Rec State Park. No I did not do any bongs there.

Met my goal of race of racing two days in a row.
Nice run and networked with a few people and talked to an old friend who used to work there. Turns out the park director who I got into a bit of trouble with setting a course out there a few years ago was fired. :-)
He retired 2 years ago because he couldn't stand her.

Also last week I turned down 2 coaching offers, one full and one part time at my old school I used to coach, coaching jumpers and turned them both down. I ran into a guy I knew who is trying to put together some trail races and one even at Parkside. He runs a program at a church school that just put in a jump pit. I told him I would volunteer to work with the jumpers there next spring. Close by home and no commitment, works for me.

Great day and great weather continues.
