CBRC run at St. Mary's City. In honor of groundhogs day, Perry said he'd reused some of the mile markers. By about 10 minutes in, I'd passed at least 3 "mile 2" signs. I do appreciate a quirky sense of humor. Around the 14 minute mark, I realized I was over dressed, but I'd shown up late and without much time to warm up, so not much I could do at that point. Tried to clear my sinuses, but mostly just succeeded in blowing snot all over my face, and was glad that the etiquette police (aka Katherine) wasn't there to yell "not wipe nose on sleeve, mommy!" at me.
Heard someone fall behind me at mile 3, and ran back to check on him. He was fine, but there was a fair bit of swearing, which didn't seem to help his performance in this case. I assume its because he didn't apologize to the "ladies" for his language. Lots of ice and ankle -crunching frozen mud out there today, not to mention the downed trees from our latest storm, glad I opted for my studded o-shoes.

swimming 44:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (20:00 @3) + (9:00 @4)

Warm-up and some kicking drills, then 7x100 on 2:00. First 6 100s were between 1:22 and 1:24, then the last was 1:28. Running out of time by then, anyway, so did an easy 100 cool down. Focus today was trying to keep my head down and turns smooth.

Note

Fell a little short on training targets for swimming, running, and biking for January, but hit my goals for strength and overall. Stayed (mostly) healthy, though, which helped! And I'm in a good spot for base fitness as I start a dedicated tri training plan. February will be a tough month, with a couple work trips planned, though, so need to stay focused and protect my workout schedule from work "emergencies".

Managed to escape work at a reasonable time, but Jeremy had work this evening, and our furnace is on the fritz, so I needed to get home and meet with the repair man, so no swim team this evening. Still, had time to get to the gym, so not bad. Colder than I wanted to brave outside, though, so back to the stationary trainer and treadmill for me.

Monday Jan 28, 2019 #

Had a long, but fun, flight in a 60 today (DC low level out to Harpers Ferry, down the Shenandoah, then east over Monticello and Charlottesville toward home), so by the time I got to swim practice, I was cold and tired with a bit of a headache. Struggled through the warm-up, then it was time for the timed mile. 29:23, which was a couple minutes slower than I was expecting, but oh well. At least it gives me a good idea where I'm at, and we'll see how much I improve over the next few months. Did some kicking drills and a cool down afterwards.
