orienteering race 48:06 [3] 5.5 km (8:45 / km) +220m 7:17 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#4 - blue)

British Middle, M50, Cannock Chase

Messy, losing time at:
#3 - couldn't find control in green and yellow
#7 - couldn't see control, plus bum route to get to it.
#12 - course navigation, just fanging XC, then hit right spur and run up it
#15 - ran a gully too far - the right gully seemed not to carry up as high as expected. Dumb, should have realised I had to drop height anyway.
#17 - bit high and I hit my #18 but didn't realise. Control was in green and I was treating bracken/branbles as green, but I should have been looking for holly (I think - may have been rhodos). Followed Mikey into it eventually
#22 - ran too far downhill before attacking from track over spur
#23 - ddin't really pick a route, it worked out OK though
#27 - an 80 m leg, but lost almost 2 minutes because there was a pit with a flag in it and I couldn't find the pit on my map. Should have just ignored it, bloody stupid mistake, but it threw me completely.

So about 13th/about 70. Pretty disappointed, but a win over Phil (DNS) and Charlie (missed #28), I didn't get blisters in my new shoes, and my stick can cope with over 30 punches.

On the minus side, pantsed by Billo, Nick L and 10 others.

orienteering 17:08 [3] 3.0 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#4 - blue)

British Sprint champs, Keele Uni. Heat.

First starter - had to turn on most of the units, bit crap for a nationals. A couple of times after hitting first ctivated unit, I punched a dead one, started running off and had to come back.

Couple of mistakes - apparently including missing a control, but the course was set well.

cycling 47:00 [3] 17.5 km (2:41 / km) +100m 2:37 / km

Last ride before I box the bike - up to Loxley, ride to the top of Goldicote Lane, then back and a quick trip into town.

soccer 10:00 [3]

Soccer with the big nephews.
Matt must be slowing down, he had to scythe me down from behind to prevent a certain goal.

Up to Neroburg, then a fairly gentle job about - quads sore.

run 1:22:00 [3] 14.0 km (5:51 / km) +320m 5:15 / km
shoes: Asics GT 1000 #2

Feeling a bit bloated after two days off and a lot of food.
Ran up from hotel to Neroburg, then ran off the map and got lost in the forest (on tracks), my usual recipe for a long run in a foreign place.

Started to find my way home after 35 minutes and was still lost after an hour and mildly panicing. Finally came out of the bush and to a picnic area and happily met the first person I'd seen for 50 minutes who told me the way.

Left ankle had one far at about 73 minutes.
