orienteering race 33:47 [4] **** 5.0 km (6:45 / km) +150m 5:53 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#2)

Aus middle-distance champs

Very technical, loads of granite.
Was never quite in control, seemed to get lucky on multiple occasions, using my run on a bearing and try to track where I am on the map technique. Caught Stix 8 minutes as he left #4, which helped me find it, then we ran a few together.

Very surprised when I got my splits and had done 33, as I knew that 35 was a quick time.

Rob Jessup lost 5 minutes on #1, and everyone else must have been a lot more conservative or game unglued, so a successful title defence.

Splits may be interesting, suspect I won none of them.

run 1:12:00 [3] 12.2 km (5:54 / km) +250m 5:21 / km
shoes: Asics GT 1000

Run up to Bournda trig, then back down the non-existant (in places) ridge path, the beach and the lake tracks.

Only wanted a 40 minute run, but felt pretty good after a plunge in the sea.

orienteering race 1:26:14 [3] *** 10.0 km (8:37 / km) +250m 7:40 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#2)

Long champs.
Great area, plentiful rock and open forest, but feeling slow from the start. Fairly clean run, with a couple of small mistakes/veering off course before running off the map at #9. Finally got to an obviously "not on teh map" feature and started North only to come to the place where I had gone wrong and all was obvious. 17 minutes for the leg :(

Still, its all about the middle distance isn't it ?
