orienteering race 29:45 [4] 4.83 km (6:10 / km) +109m 5:32 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#2)

M35AS Middle distance race, at Falnash.
Red-lined most of the course, felt pretty rusty running through the terrain and O technique was definitely rusty -should check descriptions before control, not after punching. Nice area to run on though.

cycling (commute) 50:00 [3] 16.0 km (3:08 / km) +110m 3:01 / km

To and from work, without hitting anything. Cooling off - back to two layers of short sleeves.

Legs tired.

Thursday May 16, 2013 #

cycling 40:00 [3] 13.0 km (3:05 / km) +100m 2:58 / km

Ride the test bike back to the shop - could have done with the saddle being about 2 inches higher, I think.

10 AM

cycling 11:00 [3] 3.0 km (3:40 / km)

Collect the demo bike from the GIANT shop an get it to the car.

Where I realised that (a) I didn't know how to take the front fork off the forks and (b) the geometry of the bike is such that it doesn't ft the bike rack that we have (the one that does fit the car, but also doesn't fit Lyra's bike or Alexa's).
11 AM

cycling (MTB) 1:32:19 [3] 15.77 km (5:51 / km) +511m 5:02 / km

Riding demo Giant Anthem 29'er X 1 at Old Man's Valley, Hornsby.
4 conventional laps and then one "exploring" lap - with a guy who thought that the new trails were open as he had ridden them last week, but he turned out to just be a very bad map reader.

Completely spent by the time I finished - not sure that its 100m climb each lap, but suspect I've got minimal stamoina.

Impressions: well, this makes mountain bike riding a LOT easier. The big wheels just roll over anything downhill, steering was still fine on uphill hairpins, and its way smoother with a soft-tail.

Have to take it back tomorrow - will need to resolve the bike carrying problem before I buy one.

7 AM

run 56:00 [3] 7.84 km (7:09 / km) +215m 6:17 / km

The usual run to work with some fartarsing at the end trying to find a way with fewer road Xings through North Sydney.

Knocked 4km off the GPS distance - it wasn't coping well with the cloud this morning.
5 PM

cycling (commute) 25:00 [3] 8.0 km (3:08 / km) +70m 3:00 / km

Ride home - departure was slightly delayed by me riding into the car park boom and breaking it off... I had been waiting patiently behind some lady who was taking away to the attendant about something, while I contemplated whether to ride around her or out of the in ramp. I decided to wait. The boom must have been up all this time, and it came down just on my downstroke... I hit it slowly but firmly and it fell right off... I managed not to laugh out loud, not sure if all the drivers behind me thought it was so funny as I waved it up and down for them.

8 AM

cycling (commute) 25:00 [3] 8.0 km (3:08 / km) +100m 2:56 / km

Ride to work - just about worked out the best tactic for the Walker St lights, but the extra 3 sets of lights is frustrating.
5 PM

run 48:02 [3] 7.08 km (6:47 / km) +197m 5:57 / km
shoes: Asics Gel 1170

Headlight run home. Skipped bushland park loop and ran up the golf course - little bit of groin niggle.

9 AM

run 52:45 [3] 7.71 km (6:50 / km) +127m 6:19 / km
shoes: Asics Gel 1170

Toddle about Lane Cove Bushland Park.
Felt OK, just a bit rusty (recovering from Friday night).

Ready for the commute by foot option.
