orienteering race 48:06 [3] 5.5 km (8:45 / km) +220m 7:17 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#4 - blue)

British Middle, M50, Cannock Chase

Messy, losing time at:
#3 - couldn't find control in green and yellow
#7 - couldn't see control, plus bum route to get to it.
#12 - course navigation, just fanging XC, then hit right spur and run up it
#15 - ran a gully too far - the right gully seemed not to carry up as high as expected. Dumb, should have realised I had to drop height anyway.
#17 - bit high and I hit my #18 but didn't realise. Control was in green and I was treating bracken/branbles as green, but I should have been looking for holly (I think - may have been rhodos). Followed Mikey into it eventually
#22 - ran too far downhill before attacking from track over spur
#23 - ddin't really pick a route, it worked out OK though
#27 - an 80 m leg, but lost almost 2 minutes because there was a pit with a flag in it and I couldn't find the pit on my map. Should have just ignored it, bloody stupid mistake, but it threw me completely.

So about 13th/about 70. Pretty disappointed, but a win over Phil (DNS) and Charlie (missed #28), I didn't get blisters in my new shoes, and my stick can cope with over 30 punches.

On the minus side, pantsed by Billo, Nick L and 10 others.
