Orienteering race 1:06:38 [4] 6.0 mi (11:06 / mi)
(injured)

Day 6, Coulmony. M45L, 8.7km, 470m.
Proper Scottish forest. I really liked this although it was a struggle at the end of a tough week. Worked out beforehand that 3rd overall was achievable if I beat Si Bourne. Lost a minute at no 4 but otherwise clean up to the road crossing. Took my time to recover (and relieve myself) and plan ahead then restarted. Surprised to find no elephant track across the marsh to no 17. Where did everyone else go? Executed the leg fine though and, as it turned out, that was where I won 3rd place after Si B went AWOL. Small time losses at 20 and 25 but pretty pleased to avoid big mistakes in the vague stuff. 4th, 4 mins down on Tom Eirik Eikanger (although James lost 5 mins at the dodgy no 25).
My adductor was no hindrance at all today, so looking good.
Got to be pleased with 3rd overall (even if it was only because Stevie B ran only 3 days). After day 2/3 I thought my week was over. Good rest needed now...

Orienteering race 58:09 [4] 6.0 mi (9:42 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Innov8 Mudclaw

Day 5, Roseisle. M45L, 8.4km, 375m(!)
Adductor surprisingly no worse to start with today but did hamper me towards the end as I tired. Also got sore feet due to tying my laces too tight. Pretty much hobbling by the end.
Found the area much better than I'd remembered and the extension was also pretty good. My orienteering was sloppy though; from 8 to 9 I started navigating as though I was doing 9 to 10. Eventually worked it out but binned 1.5 mins in the process. Lots of small mistakes but next worse was no 22 where I couldn't force myself to drop off the ridge far enough to the north for about a minute. Still I got another result (6th, 6 mins down on James) which gives me the chance of an overall result.

Orienteering race 55:36 [4] 5.5 mi (10:07 / mi)
(injured)

Day 4, Loch of Boath. M45L, 8.0km, 250m.
I jogged to the start expecting to pick up my map and jog a few controls before retiring. Starting at the same time as Mikey, I then decided to follow him for a bit and see how quick he runs these days. Pretty similar to me it turns out. He showed me no 1 before going off to find his no 1;-)
The adductor was not a big issue as long I didn't stride out too far and was careful jumping any obstacles. The late start meant I had an elephant superhighway to follow most of the way and I took full advantage. 3rd, only 2 mins down on James. Game back on?

(injured) (rest day)

The Official rest day. Adductor better today, but still noticeable on the golf course. I wish I could blame it for my bad golf!

(injured) shoes: Innov8 Mudclaw

Day 2, Carse of Ardersier. M45L, 9.1km, 25m (yeah, sure...)
Thigh/groin (actually left adductor I think) was about same as yesterday to start with but suddenly got worse after about 30 mins. Kept on with an increasing hobble as far as no 21 before deciding enough was enough. Walked back.
Saw the on-site masseur afterwards and she (painfully) relieved some tightness in my ITB's. Doubt this is going to magically sort me, ready for tomorrow. I should probably rest the next 2 days and try again on Day 4. We'll see.

Orienteering race 48:16 [4] 5.0 mi (9:39 / mi)
(injured)

Scottish 6 Days, Day 1; Lossie. M45L, 7.7km, 65m.
Didn't dare do much of a warm-up as frightened of aggravating the groin strain. Set off steadily and tried to run within myself. Groin was OK to start with but did get a bit sore towards the end. Not too bad though; maybe helped by taking Ibuprofen beforehand?
Just one miss at no 6, otherwise clean. Took a safe route to no 16 as I'd been forewarned it was a potential race breaker. Pleased to finish 3rd, just under 2 mins down on Stevie B. Ice on both groin and achilles when back at caravan.
