Walking 1:00:00 [1] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw (3)

Circuit of Tre Cimo di Lavaredo. Very leisurely walk not normally worthy of logging but as it was all over 2000m altitude I'm making an exception. Actual walking time 4 hours including multiple stops for photos, etc.
Amazing scenery, must-do walk. Achilles sore first thing but not bad whilst walking. No Ibuprofen, just some Ibuleve gel.

Orienteering race 30:05 [4] 2.5 mi (12:02 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw (3)

Italian 5 Days, Day 5.
Padola Sant'Antonio Middle Distance.
M55, 3.6km 110m. 17 controls.
Today I had Hakon Svensson starting 2 mins behind me which helped concentrate the mind. Clean through the first 7 controls but slight hesitation at #8 and I could see him behind. I led him to #9 but he got ahead to #10 and I took the opportunity for a tow. Unfortunately he missed #14. I corrected quicker than him and got away, taking a better route to #15. Pleased to hold him off to the finish.
Finished 3rd on the day, 1.41 down on Hakon. 4th overall.

Achilles has got gradually worse as the week progressed, most noticeably first thing in the morning. 2 Ibuprofen per day plus Ibuleve gel has kept me going. Now I need to give it a chance to settle down. Ice when back at base.

Orienteering race 36:55 [3] 3.0 mi (12:18 / mi)
(injured) shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

Italian 5 Days, Day 4.
Padola Valgrande Middle Distance.
M55, 3.9km 100m 15 controls.
Oh dear oh dear. Blew 2 mins on #1. Then another 2 mins on #2. Ran ok for a few controls but then we hit the steep slope a bit like yesterday. Way way too high (again - will I ever learn?) for #6 after mistakenly identifying the fallen trees on the spur before the control. Another 3 mins binned. All a bit easy from #8 onwards but couldn't run properly due to increasing objection from my Achilles.
Finished in 10th, 8.31 down on Hakon. Somehow clung on to my 4th overall position but miles behind 3rd.

2 Ibuprofen before running and ice again afterwards.

Italian 5 Days, Day 3.
Misurina Middle Distance race.
M55, 4.1km 115m 15 controls.
Steep alpine hillside where you need to be in control of your height. I wasn't and kept climbing too much. Worst case was #5 where I must have binned 4 or 5 mins. Probably doubled the 115m quoted climb.
10 mins down on Hakan Svensson in 8th place.

More ibuprofen more ice. Achilles gradually getting worse but still feels ok for the first few controls in the slow terrain.

Orienteering race 39:45 [3] 3.0 mi (13:15 / mi)
(injured) shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

Italian 5 Days, Day 2.
Misurina 'Long' race.
M55, 4.3km 160m 12 controls.
Ibuprofen and beer keeping me going. Walked to the most scenic start position in my life. Fantastic views of stunning mountains in every direction including the Tre Cimo.
Achilles ok (probably due to the ibuprofen) at the only pace possible except for one bit of downhill tarmac between #5 and #6. Careful navigation where necessary so minimal time lost. Pleased to finish 3rd, 3.41 down on Hakon Svensson.
Ice once the thunderstorm allowed us to return to base.

Orienteering race 20:41 [3] 2.5 mi (8:16 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw (3)

Italian 5 Days, Day 1.
Auronzo.urban 'sprint'
M55 3.1km 80m.
2 Ibuprofen before running but Achilles still sore. Tried to run within myself, particularly on the downhill bits, so as not to aggravate it any more than necessary. Ice after. Hopefully I'll still be running tomorrow.

Orienteering OK but the odd wobble where I couldn't be sure if there was a legal way through. Played safe where in doubt.
Finished 7th, 2 mins down on Hakon Svensson but only 1 min from 2nd. Looking forward to the first of the proper orienteering tomorrow.
