12 PM

Orienteering race 1:05:58 [3] 6.0 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 Mudclaw

EPOC Regional, Langfield Common. Short Brown, 6.9km, 250m.
Nice to get onto the western slope for a change. Unfortunately the map really wasn't up to standard, particularly the contours but also the rock detail. I lost time at 5 and 7 and gave up racing after that. I then had a massive walkabout at no 9 which I can't blame on the map, just my lazy technique. Really good to be running pain free again, but need to improve my race fitness and technical skills. Over 10 mins down on Joe Woodley and 8 on Mikey.

Note

Golf comp. I was mostly rubbish, but calf feeling a lot less tight.
3 PM

Trail running 25:00 [3] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Loop of Digley. Calf still very slightly tight but l think I'm OK to run at Stoodley Pike tomorrow.

Mountain Bike 1:50:00 [2] 23.0 mi (4:47 / mi)

Right calf a little better, but still very tight. Foam roller slightly less painful.
Waited for the rain to go away then up to the Isle of Skye (into a very strong headwind: 3.5 miles, 30 mins), then a lovely descent of Wessenden. Once in Marsden had a loop up to the canal tunnel but decided the towpath was too wet so cruised down the A62 into Huddersfield at 20+mph then hit the headwind again coming back up the Holme Valley. Spotted our MP cleaning his windows.

Note
(rest day)

Right calf very tight today. 10 holes of golf and some (very painful) foam rollering helped but still too tight to contemplate running.

4 PM

Trail running 55:00 [3] 6.0 mi (9:10 / mi)

Loop of Arnside Knott. I've always wanted to run round the coastal path on Arnside Park. Not quite how I'd imagined: the footpath went onto the (rocky) beach at a couple of points and would have been underwater at high tide. I was lucky with my timing and kept dry feet, just. Calves still stiff but managable until near the end when my right (the other one) tightened up. Booked in with Richard for the same treatment on my right calf as he's already done on the left.

Tuesday Mar 4, 2014 #

7 PM

Intervals 11:20 [5] 2.0 mi (5:40 / mi)

Harriers: 4 x 800m with 1 min recovery. Averaging 2.50.
Would have done 6 but calves tightening up. Both calves and in different places to recent injury so hopeful it's nothing to worry about.

Road running 35:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Club hut to Netherton and back, warm-up and down.
