Orienteering race 1:07:08 [4] 6.0 mi (11:11 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 X-Talon

Welsh Champs, Merthyr Mawr. Brown course, 8.7 km, 340m.
Better. Much better: good map and good planning. Really enjoyable race. Got caught by Mark Bown (4 min) at 21 and had fun head-to-head race with him and Abi Weeds to the finish. So 4 min down on Mark and 4 min up on Abi. 4th on course, 10 mins down on Duncan Birtwistle and 2.25 on Marcus.
Good week away with some great O training. Pleased with how I'm running after 2 months of cycling.

Interestingly, according to one of my old maps, I ran 10km in 56 mins there 20 years ago.

Orienteering race 30:27 [4] 3.0 mi (10:09 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 X-Talon

Welsh short open Champs. Kenfig nature reserve. One course for all; 4.1km.
Where to start? Poor map: 5m contours, no index contours and very poor representation of ground shapes. Area also largely flooded with standing water inaccurately mapped. At least two controls in the wrong place (one of which was moved during the competition). All lead to a random race.
I lost time at no.4, 7 and 10 (which was then moved). Total about 4 mins lost. It will be interesting to see what the results say...
Edit: results not adjusted. No mention of when the control was moved or who was affected. 2 sec behind Clive in the handicap results and he had no.10 in the 'right' place.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 7.0 mi (12:51 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 X-Talon

Technique training with Welsh Junior Squad at Broughton Burrows. Attackpoints, contours as line features, no compass and relocation exercises. Also some control placing, collecting and shaddowing. Full on day. Stuffed now but calf ok. I think it liked the easy pace, plenty of breaks and some walking. Thanks to Mark2 for the invite.

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3] 5.5 mi (11:49 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 Mudclaw

JK specific training at OFD. Putting out controls on 7.2 km course for the kids. Calf tightening up despite prolonged warm down waiting for Mikey to finish.

Note
(rest day)

Golf at Pyle and Kenfig. Links golf is almost a different sport compared with Meltham. It showed. Eventually gave up with the driver. Lost count of the number of four putts and OOB off the tee. 116!
Very stiff today, particularly both calfs. Walking round the golf helped but left calf still tight. Possibly another day off required.
