Mountain bike ride with Bill from chez Peel. Up the clough, Houndkirk Rd, Blacka and Eccy woods. Nice to be out in familiar places. Wind nearly blown away the hangover!

Orienteering race 33:09 [4] 4.0 mi (8:17 / mi)

York Uni Urban Race. A Course, 4.8km.
Tried to cruise round rather than race and succeeded; every time my Achilles started to feel a bit sore I eased off a bit. Also stuck to grass rather than tarmac where possible. Overall pretty pleased as achilles was never very sore. Also pleased to finish only 2 minutes behind Simon and Steve W.

Decent warm down around the far side of the lake. Achilles was fine at this more gentle pace. Ice as soon as I got home.

Holmfirth then A635 to the county boundary. 6 miles steady climb into headwind (35 mins). Fun ride back with wind behind. Stretching beforehand and ice after.

Riverbank and old canal to Sedgwick and back from Kendal. Achilles more sore than Tuesday, but eventually (30 mins) eased off a bit, so better at end than start. Stretching before and ice after.
3x10 heel raises (still pain free, but left noticeably weaker than right). More ice.

Up Scout Scar from Kendal. Achilles not too bad, but a bit sore from time to time. Plenty of stretching beforehand and ice afterwards.
3x10 heel raises.

Achilles pretty good this morning, so confident that it's heading in the right direction. Looking at yesterday's splits made me realise that I've lost quite a bit of fitness since I had flu back in March. I've not been able to run as much as I'd like due to the Achilles, but I've been lazy about finding alternatives. Hence I got my road bike out: Holmfirth, Greenfield, Denshaw, Buckstones, Huddersfield, home. Seem to have strained something on the inside of my right thigh. Hopefully it won't affect my running.
