Orienteering race 1:13:22 [4] 5.5 mi (13:20 / mi)
(injured)

LOC Long Race, Graythwaite. Short Brown, 6.9km, 460m.
Another top class race. Achilles only slightly niggly this morning, so decided to go for it (despite some concern from Kim, who happened to be parked next to us). Very sloppy start navigationally with misses at no 2, 3 and 4. I lost around a total of 3.5 mins by no 4 and Joe Woodley, who'd started 3 mins behind, had passed me. Got into it after that and ran pretty well from then on. Re-caught Joe around no 13 and then Martin W at 16, so had a bit of head-to-head racing at the end. This helped me to the fastest time by an old man, 4 minutes up on Quentin (but 3 down on Joe).
Achilles was a little sorer than yesterday and at one point in the middle of the race I considered retiring to look after it. However I kept going and it didn't get any worse. Ice when I got home. May need a day or two for it to settle back down.

Orienteering race 34:28 [4] 3.0 mi (11:29 / mi)
(injured)

LOC Middle Distance Race, Esthwaite Intake. Brown, 3.9km, 140m.
Top class Middle race. Tried to run within myself and stay in control. Worked well until I overshot no 7 (30 secs) and then missed no 12 to the right (1 min). After that I settled back down and ran clean. Very pleased to be only 1 second behind Quentin. Could have equalled him if someone hadn't insisted on barging in to punch the finish before me!
Achilles only slightly sore. Walked to/from start/finish to avoid aggravating it any more than necessary.

(injured) (rest day)

Achilles feels really good this morning; no niggles first thing on the stairs. Fingers crossed that 2 races in the Lakes won't aggravate it too much...

Yateholme circuit, trying to avoid landing heel first. Eased off on steeper downhills where impossible to avoid heel striking. Achilles sore but less so than Tuesday and no worse at end. Ice afterwards, stretching beforehand.
3x10 heel raises. No pain this time. More ice afterwards.

Walking with Janet. Thurstonland to Kirkburton (for pub lunch) and back. About 8-9 miles and 3-4 hours in total. Had fun messing around in the remaining snowdrifts. Some still over a metre deep. Achilles niggling a little but not sore.
