Orienteering race 1:24:56 [4] 9.6 km (8:51 / km)

West Point Long - significant time losses on 5 and 9. Looks as though I could keep map contact in the middle of legs while running as fast as or faster than the other Canadians present but I was messing up at the end of legs more often/worse than many of them. Unfortunate but, given that this weekend was my first exposure to rocky terrain this season, a certain degree of improvement ought to come automatically, more so if this instills a bit more caution during the yellow light phase of legs.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2]

On the way home, went for a long run on Surebridge, control picking and then slowly running one of the courses from last October's training camp that was run during the week before I got there. A useful reminder of the WOC 93 mapping style. Slowness was pretty much mandatory after the morning's race but also seemed appropriate since it was mainly attacking controls in detailed areas that gave me trouble this weekend. Practicing total map contact in extremely complex terrain therefore seemed like a good idea.

Should have brought my small hydration pack for this weekend. Drank a lot before going out but was very dry by the time I finished.

Orienteering race 56:52 [4] 4.8 km (11:51 / km) +235m 9:31 / km

West Point middle - unspeakably bad flailing on the steep rocky slope east of the control after a parallel error getting to my attack point for the sixth control. Split analysis says I was otherwise doing reasonably well compared to the rest of the field.

Orienteering race 16:01 [5] 2.8 km (5:43 / km)

West Point sprint - far easier navigation and better result, despite a silly time loss of apparently around 19 seconds on the tenth control.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

To work with a lot of stuff I'll need at West Point over the weekend. Will be nice to just leave most of it at the office the next two weeks for convenient jumping off to WCOC and US Trials events.

Cycling 29:00 [3]

Having put the new Schwalbe Big Apples on it, rode the new bike home and then to Safeway. Still need to put a rear rack on it but I checked and it looks as though my old Old Man Mountain rack will fit just fine - I'll just need to get some new C clamps for the seat stay attachment points.

Core exercises 10:00 [4]

Abdominal stuff.

To work by way of the aquatic center.

Swimming 1:20:00 [2]

Flutterkicking.

Cycling 19:00 [3]

Cycling partway home - got a flat and my replacement tube seemed to be a dud as well so walked the rest of the way home.
