Cycling 1:06:00 [3]

Work commute including home by way of the aquatic center.

Swimming 42:00 [3]

Nothing but flutter kicking - figured a day without the running motion but with something to loosen up my legs would be a good idea.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]

Some abdominal stuff while watching Prison Break.

Strength 12:00 [2]

One-legged squats, alternating legs, 40 on each one before switching, while watching 24.

Orienteering race 1:31:50 [4] 13.78 km (6:40 / km) +380m 5:51 / km

Umstead Long - well left for a significant loss of time on 1 again then fairly good for most of the rest of the course, though I'll be interested in comparing some splits decide whether my road-taking routes on the long 9-10 and 11-12 legs were good decisions. Pushed hard and finally managed to convert speed (and endurance - it seemed the distance got to several people) into a win, if only just with Rune 19 seconds back.

Almost as satisfyingly, someone told me I was running beautifully in the terrain. Good thing they saw me on a tolerably gentle runnable downhill rather than struggling through some deadfall or slogging uphill.

Lovely weekend. Good kickoff to the 2007 A event season. Thanks to all involved in the organising.

Orienteering race 37:46 [4] 5.26 km (7:11 / km) +205m 6:01 / km

Umstead Middle WRE - second, one second behind Eric. Very tentative on 1 and too far left on 10, routes to 11 and 12 that could have been improved with slightly more attentive map reading but the real howler was letting the proximity of 1 to 15 such me back to it rather than towards 16 - I didn't detect the error until I checked the code at 1. Too bad throwing away a victory and however many WRE points but nothing I'll beat myself up about, though I'll have to try not to do that again - I think this may be the first time I've tried to navigate to the wrong control in an A event. No, probably not, but I'm pretty sure it's the first time I've managed to go all the way to the wrong control before cluing in.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

An hour and a quarter of control pickup - 12 controls including the ones furthest east - discounted for standing still at controls.

Orienteering race 15:06 [5] 2.59 km (5:50 / km) +75m 5:06 / km

Umstead Sprint - second, having screwed up 1 and 7 rather badly and wandered well left on the route to 8. Quick split analysis with Ross suggests it would have been very close if we'd both been clean.

Cycling 57:00 [3]

FAA-sponsored conference ended early enough that I was able to go to work for a couple of hours and get to the pool. Flatted the rear tire on the way to work and the tire itself was coming apart at the seams so walked the rest of that to the office where I had a new tire stashed.

Deep Water Running 46:00 [4]

Until the pool closed. Hard since time was limited and this was in large part in order to make sure my metabolism is revved up for this weekend.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Enough of this total rest - time to bike to work. Also hoped to get to pool tonight but the librarian at Mount Pleasant just reminded me that I and others are committed to helping her pick up a large donation of materials so I'm not sure whether that'll be reduced in duration or even happen at all.

Biking home as well. Stopped and did some chinups along the way. The book donation pickup was on so no pool but I should be able to manage that tomorrow.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]
