Mass started race at Pelican Bay. I started out running well, feeling pretty good, and navigating (not just following) Andrei, Tom S, and the Swiss guy through the first four controls. However, I veered too far right on #5 and had to come back to the east, and by then many of the runners had gone through. I also boomed #6, probably more a consequence of anoxia than trying to hurry and catch up. Yeah, I'll call it that. 6-7 was an easy leg to get back on track, and then I spiked 7-8, overtaking Ludwig. The rest of the legs were solid, and I tried to bring the effort level up to 5 on the open running prairie of 11-12-13-14, with enough success to pass several people, including Ian and Charlie, and finish 6th.
Ice may have the map posted shortly.

After lunch, did a (hot) afternoon training course with Andrei, at Plains of Despair. We basically jog/run/walked the whole course, but at each control we would stop, tell each other our planned routes, and agree on one to take. With the good visibility on that map, we could also point out map features before and during each leg, and went slow enough to check off nearly every feature. So it was good for getting used to the maps (for me, again; for Andrei, the first time here)
Ian helped Ice with slow, no-compass terrain awareness drills. Charlie and JP did a switch-off memory-O, with one beer owed for each map look during the leg.
