Long course today - a few more trails and the terrain wasn't quite as intricate as yesterday. Ran with the new thumb compass, and didn't make any major bobbles, only a few minor ones. My pace slowed down on the last quarter, though.

Orienteering (control retrieval) 40:00 [2] ** 2.0 km (20:00 / km)
spiked:8/8c

Retrieved some yellow and orange controls near the start, plus an unexpected water stop.

Difficult! red course at US Champs. Great, great terrain. My compass flew out of my hand on the way to #1 and so I had to read the map the rest of the course. Thus, I went slower, stayed on the map, and didn't make any big mistakes. It paid dividends.

Orienteering (model event) 35:00 [3] *** 4.0 km (8:45 / km)
spiked:5/6c

I didn't get into Plymouth until 11 PM the night before, so I got up early and ran a loop on the Hep Cat map around 8 AM. It was good to see the mapping style ahead of time.

Orienteering (control retrieval) 30:00 [2] *** 2.5 km (12:00 / km)
spiked:3/3c

Retrieved the three farthest controls on the Day 1 blue course. Very nice woods out that way.

TNT Night-O by Todd. 5 normal controls to a handicapped score-O section. Not one of my best performances - spent too much time thrashing off trail. Cool and wet.
