Orienteering 1:09:59 [3] 3.9 mi (17:57 / mi) +40m 17:23 / mi

Green course at Bear Creek. My first time back since I returned to CO, and nothing had changed. It brought back a lot of memories because this was the park that we trained in during my triathlon phase. The lake that broke me down into tears because I was so scared to swim way out around the buoys. (I got better.) The hill on the road where by friend crashed her bike and broke her hip. And of course many O events.

Today's event went well. It's hard to set complex courses here because of all the trails, but Sverre did a good job. It was hot though...so hot. Between the heat and my pandemic pounds, it was not a pleasant time. I'll have to work on the latter.

Just messed up a few controls. Ran right past #1, focused on another control I saw further down the trail. When that wasn't my code, I turned around and saw it. Then messed up #5 -- a pit in a field of pits. Scared up some deer that were lounging in the shade of a tree in a depression. And, finally, messed up #11. I just didn't go far enough and started looking too soon.

Running 30:02 [3] 2.07 mi (14:31 / mi) +5m 14:24 / mi

Out for a morning jog, I didn't think about it being Mother's Day. There were several visitors in the cemetery, probably visiting their moms. It was very touching.

First time out in a while, for good and bad news. The good news is that I got a promotion at work. I am now the Director of Strategic Planning Operations. The bad news is that this position is going to keep me very busy. Just this past week, I was voluntold on Monday that I needed to travel to DC on Tuesday to facilitate the Board of Directors' retreat on Wednesday and Thursday. Evidently the consultant they had hired had a family emergency and could no longer lead the retreat. He had done the outline for the retreat, but had not developed any of the exercises or other ways to keep it engaging. Needless to say, it was a crazy week.
