Orienteering 1:04:07 [3] 5.13 km (12:29 / km) +25m 12:12 / km

US Masters Champs, Day 1. After a pretty disappointing outing on the model map yesterday afternoon, I didn't have high hopes for today. But I thought the woods were much more runnable today, and the map was fabulous. I had a good run, with just a few hesitations and one control (#7) where I ran right past the control twice(!) before I finally saw it.

Today was a fun day!

Orienteering 1:10:07 [3] 3.6 km (19:29 / km)

I visited the model map this morning for a walk around. I have so many thoughts about what's going to work best in this terrain. I was mostly checking out the marshes this morning, and have decided it's not worth trying any of them but you can run close to the edges without much trouble. I'll go back this afternoon and try out some tactics.

Cycling 55:24 [3] 11.71 mi (12.7 mph) +12m

A short, leisurely ride just to shake out the legs. It's been a very busy week at work, and it doesn't look like it's going to be letting up anytime soon. Blah!

Hiking 57:57 [3] 3.26 mi (17:47 / mi)

Hiked around the neighborhood for a little exploration. I'm in Onamia for the week...it just made sense to come here after the beach instead of driving back to CO and then up to MN. The weather is beautiful so far, but there are TONS of ladybugs. I tried to sit outside to work today, but had to abandon that plan after a bit when I kept getting bombarded. I was hoping to get to the model event map this week, but it looks like it doesn't officially open until Friday morning.

We had a wonderful week at the beach. Perfect weather and a perfect wedding. We even managed to get all dolled up.

Note

For those who know Mom and Don -- an update.

Don still has't regained use of his hand, but he can walk fairly well with no assistance and he can talk. Mom is maintaining her level of cognition, but is getting older...she's now 85. For those reasons, and others, it's been decided that they should move to an assisted living facility. After much searching and visiting, they've chosen one in Richmond, VA. I think they have mixed feelings, but they also understand that their kids can't go on providing care on a rotating basis. Plus, we really don't know what we're doing.

My brother, Erik, lives in Richmond and my sister, Karin, will be moving there within the year. And two of my nieces and a nephew are there. So it made sense for them to be there. Plus, it is less expensive in Richmond vs. Northern Virginia. We are all hoping that this move will help them from a socialization standpoint -- more people to talk to, more things to do, more stimulation. I think that will do them the most good. Fingers crossed.
