Strength Training 30:00 [3]

Helped Graham and Rachel move into their new apartment in Denver today. A lot of lifting and toting.

Hiking 2:04:38 [3] 4.53 mi (27:31 / mi) +445m 21:05 / mi

Back on the trails! I couldn't get there in the morning because I had a few appointments to keep, so I aimed to get there around 3:00 to miss the mid-day crowd. And that plan worked well because as I was driving in, past the sign that said Arthur's Rock parking lot was full, about 20 cars were headed out. So I went to the "full" lot and found plenty of spots.

The failing part of this plan was that so many people were heading down as I was heading up, and they didn't seem to know that hiking etiquette says that uphill hikers have the right of way. So, I kept pulling over and waiting for them to pass, and that took a little longer than normal.

I also noticed that there were way more people on the trail today. So, my past impressions of what was a "busy" trail were quite wrong. I can't imagine what summer is going to be like...maybe not as busy as Yellowstone, but still not great. This also seemed to be a more casual crowd than those I saw during the snowier trips. Lots of Chacos and the smell of weed was everywhere. At one point, I was directly behind a group smoking as they were hiking, so I hung back a bit more. Luckily they pulled off for a break and I was able to pass. That's not what I want to smelling while I'm hiking.

Because of the crowd, I changed my plan from originally going up and down on Arthur's Rock trail, to coming down on Howard's trail, which was pretty empty. There were some folks heading up around 4:30, which surprised me because the park closes at 6:00, and they didn't look like speedy hikers. Maybe they were just going up for a bit and then turning.

Running 30:01 [3] 2.1 mi (14:18 / mi)

Another beautiful day...I ran in short sleeves! I had intended to do the alphabet badge, but I didn't remember until the turn-around. And then I simply ran out of time to find X, Y, and Z. I'll have to do a run through town to make sure I get everything.

It was such a beautiful day today. Luckily, the nice weather brought lots of people onto the trail, and I could use all of their clothing to complete the Rainbow Run badge. I didn't do them in order, though.
