It was a chilly, rainy morning...what a great day for orienteering! So I headed out to Blockhouse Point Conservation Park to run a few loops that Peggy had put out. I was hoping the weather would keep most folks away, and it looked like it did just that.

I had never been on this map before, so it was an exciting first outing. I did the B and A loops, keeping the other two for another time. I had pre-decided to stay off the trails as much as possible, even if it would have been a better route choice. That turned out to be a good option because in the first few controls, it was obvious I hadn't been in the woods for awhile, and I would need all the practice I could get to re-energize my woods legs.

I did fine navigationally, just getting a little too far left on two controls when I didn't use my compass at all. (Better than being too far right!) It was nice to be out in the woods again, even if it was very wet. I'd like to try to get out every weekend.

I also don't think I'd ever driven out this far on River Rd. Or, if I have, it's been a very long time, long enough to be new to me again. And, I have to say, there are some monstrously ugly homes along River Rd., at least closer in to the Beltway. I mean, so big and so ugly. I took Falls Rd. home to check out the parking situation at Great Falls. There were many cars parked in the little pull-offs at the front gate and no more "No Parking" signs right there, so maybe it's okay again. There were still signs further down MacArthur towards Old Angler's Inn, and no cars parked there.
