Orienteering 19:33 [3] 1.54 mi (12:42 / mi) +11m 12:25 / mi
I attended my first Squirrel Kill/Squirrelnado race! This has traditionally been the final event in QOC's Summer Sprint Series. I couldn't make it last year, but this year I did, and it was so much fun. Ted Good organizes it with the help of his wife, Darcy. I think each year it's a little different, but always pretty involved.
This year he had 11 different courses in 9 different parks. You can choose how many courses you want to do, the order you want to do them in, whether you want to do them on foot or on bike, how many controls you want to do on each course, etc. And Ted has rules and scoring for each of the scenarios. Plus a few other non-orienteering activities for points (a dolley race, building a boat, and taking an orienteering quiz).
Evidently the attendance this year was lower than last year, but we still had about 15 or so finish some permutation of the courses. And I ended up coming in 2nd, much to my shock. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
