Orienteering race 1:13:18 [4] 4.5 km (16:17 / km) +215m 13:09 / km

Brown Course at PWF. I had signed up for Green, but when I got to the park, I just wasn't feeling it. Green was 6.5k with 285m of climb. I had gotten to the park in hopes of getting out on the map before the official 11:00 start time, so I didn't want to waste that early start by taking twice as long on the Green course. I had things to do back home. So I dropped to Brown, which turned out to be perfect.

After a few slight missteps out of the start, I was actually feeling pretty good in the woods. I still can't lift my left knee very high, so I stumble on pretty much everything out there, but at least it wasn't hurting as much as it did in Georgia. I felt like I was moving well and comparing splits to the top ladies on Brown, it looks like that was true. I was keeping up, at least. But then I got to #9, a control location I knew very well. I had a control in there when I set the US Champs in PWF and I've been on other courses with controls in that area, so I knew it could be tricky. I almost took the trail all of the way around, but in the end, I cut into the woods after the bridge on the Quantico Creek trail. I should have stayed on the trails.

I don't know if I psyched myself out, and I'm pretty sure I must have gone right past the control without seeing it, but I found myself up on the trail, next to a control in a depression, so I knew where I was. I went back down the slope, towards my control, but didn't go north enough and went too low, so missed it again. I was just turning back uphill to go back to the trail and try again when a scrap of orange caught my eye and I saw the control. Pure luck. Argh!!

Oh well, I feel really good about the rest of the course, but of course, just wishing I could run faster. I guess those days are done.

Strength Training 1:00:00 [3]

Back to Body Pump class.

I always think I'm going write some great post when I add my training, but it rarely happens. And then I read Peggy's log, and it's some fabulous story. She can make going to McDonald's for an ice tea sound exciting. :-) And Alex's race reports leave me on the edge of my seat. And of course Swampfox's stories usually leave me shaking my head and smiling.

One day I might get into the entertaining log mode, but for now suffice to say my life is a little hectic, I miss my calmer days in Denver, and I hope to get into some kind of regular routine at some point.

Swimming 19:00 [3]

Warm up: 100
Pyramid: 25/50/75/100/75/50/25 with :15 between sets
Cool down:100

I've been sad/distressed/frustrated all day. I always thought there was a chance that Trump could win the election, and when he did, I thought, "We just have to get through these next 4 years." But after just one week in office, he's done so much to undo a lot of Obama's great work and is going down a road of complete insanity. I don't know if this country can survive 4 years of this. It has already turned into a country that I don't recognize. Thank God for the people who are willing to stand up against him. The marchers last week; the people protesting at the airports around the country tonight, welcoming any immigrants; CREW, who is suing Trump for violating the emoluments clause. We just need to keep harassing him.
