Orienteering race 1:00:23 [4] 7.2 km (8:23 / km) +300m 6:56 / km

Swiss O-week Etapp 4
HE (+H20) 92/140 (105/176) +14.11

Mass start around the tree line above Zermatt, 2100-2300m.
Two forked ~3km courses with a common ~1km loop at the end. Each course had 3 common controls and hence 3 2-forked stretches between. Was about 150m to the start triangle with 50m(!) climb, the most on the last part. Got to start in the first very narrow start line and knew I had to try to run initially to avoid being ran over. Got away really well and even if I was the first who started to walk, I reached the start triangle in ~20th spot. I think only 5-10 ran the whole way (only Judith Wyder among the women) and none after the map exchange. Still was really tired on the top and really had to struggle the next ~10min, trying to avoid having to many people running past me and at the same time navigate enough to follow the right train. Made a bunch of small mistakes and also lost ~10s on the first common post, having to wait to punch since it was somewhat chaotic. Heading in to the 2nd common control in my trian two guys sprinted past me just before the control to get ahead of the guy in front of me. Something similar happened in the train coming from the other direction and I realized directly that this wouldn't end well. As people started fighting I took position as close as I could without getting involved in the narrow rocky area. Someone snatched away the unit from the control and in the ensuing fight it landed on the ground. I tried to make people calm down, but I guess it is impossible in a situation like that. After ~20s I realized it was not going to get better as more got in than managed to punch and I joined the struggle (had a good position and experience from worse situations at 10-milas) and managed to punch after another ~10s. Saw an organizer ~50m past the control and told him to go and organize things. Found two more units on the ground, once there was an organiser beside that I again told to put it up on the control. Got more or less alone on the second course with a group 15-20s both behind and in front of me (and hence not really to any help). Running wise it felt better than earlier in the week (think I lost 3-4min on the running) and I did recover a bit on the easier parts, still didn't dare to try to change tempo to much and focused on the navigation that went very well when I was alone. Lost ~1.5min all when I was in a group (half due to too few units).

Orienteering race 1:12:11 [3] 9.5 km (7:36 / km) +450m 6:09 / km

Swiss O-week "Etapp 5" (3rd stage)
HE 109/142 +20.15

Long-distance on the high mountain meadows above Zermatt, 2600-2800m. Again focus on the navigation and to take the uphills really easy (walking). Could run decently on the downhills and the flat parts for most of the course, probably due to I was getting slowly better. One major mistake, #10, drifted to far left (low) and never noticed when I passed the road, lost ~1min. Otherwise some smaller mistakes, probably another minute together. Estimating losing ~6min in running to normal.

Orienteering race 1:13:11 [2] 8.4 km (8:43 / km) +360m 7:10 / km

Swiss O-week Etapp 2
HE 115/143 +24.21

Long-distance on the mountain slopes above Zermatt on ~2100-2300m, mostly above the tree-line. Decided to focus on the navigation, since I expected the running would continue to suffer due to my cold. Completely screwed up the long route choice leg 2min+, otherwise a pretty clean race (a bit to careful navigation maybe). Didn't hardly recover at all after the uphills and really had to struggle the last kms. Think I lost ~10min on the running to my normal self.

Orienteering race 22:40 [3] 2.5 km (9:04 / km) +80m 7:49 / km

Swiss O-week Prolog (Etapp 1)
HE 100/132 +6.05

Shouldn't have been running. Still had my cold. Decided to give it a try anyway. It went good initially. MIssed a wall to #4, lost ~10s. Couldn't understand the different mapped levels at all at #6, lost ~60s. Then it went okay for a couple of control, but I felt I was getting more and more tired and couldn't really recover. The further the race went the more did both the running and navigation suffer. Think I lost 2-2.5min in total on each compared to a healthy day. Can't remember last time I had such a bad sprint performance. Still, it was a great course in downtown Zermatt, so I still had a pretty good time.
