running 43:00 [3] 4.1 mi (10:29 / mi)

Weary run around Oxley, West Park, Queenswood. Succeeded in a reasonably coherent rendition of my name across the open and sparsely populated spaces of Beckett Park.

running 19:30 [3] 1.9 mi (10:16 / mi)

20 minute warm up. No sign of palpitations.

running 25:20 [5] 5.0 km (5:04 / km)

Meanwood Road 5k time trial. I know I'm not very fast atm and was expecting something like a low 24. Pace on the first mile was OK but then it slipped away on the 2nd mile. The last mile, slightly uphill against a slight headwind, was a real struggle. 25:20 is a bit shit really.

Lovely day.

running 9:00 [3] 0.6 mi (15:00 / mi)

Struggle home, barely above walking pace.

running 36:00 [3] 3.3 mi (10:55 / mi)

Evie wanted company for a meander round Meanwood and the Hollies. Very busy.

running 30:00 [2] 2.5 mi (12:00 / mi)

Around the Hollies and Meanwood. No energy at all, barely shuffling along. Hot, tired, achy and very slow.

running 1:50:52 [3] 11.2 mi (9:54 / mi)

long plod - Adel Woods, Golden Acre, Cookridge, Horsforth Station, Butcher Hill. Warm, quite pleasant really, Much zig-zagging and pausing for passers by.

running 47:00 [3] 4.6 mi (10:13 / mi)

Seven Arches, steady with Evie.

running 21:43 [2] 2.2 mi (9:52 / mi)

Far Headingley and Meanwood 20 minute warm-up

urban/sprint 59:59 [4] 6.8 mi (8:49 / mi) +150m 8:15 / mi

NLFR anytime postbox score. Starting in Meanwood outside Waitrose, visiting as many post boxes as possible in 1 hour and returning to Waitrose. Map from OOM prepared by Richard Foster.

I think the scale of 1:12500 fooled me - I thought I could do about 20% more than I actually managed. I started with the lower Meanwood controls then crossed into Headingley. This might not have been the best route but I already know all the roads and where most of the postboxes are. After crossing back into Meanwood it all got a bit hillier so I wasn't covering so much ground, and I found myself heading into a corner with widely spaced controls and time running out. In the end I just sprinted back by the shortest route to the finish, ignoring 1 control that would have taken less than an extra minute, and running back past the control I had visited first.

With the benefit of hindsight I think I could improve by 3 or 4 controls. I might give it another go next week, although I don't know whether my second effort will be eligible. I imagine there are big prizes at stake.
